Pasko na ulit! 💫

This undated print from the Philippine Art Gallery Christmas Card Series depicts a simple provincial scene. A man is riding alongside his herd of (quite colorful!) carabao as he carries around a 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘭, a lantern that symbolizes not only hope and faith, but also the Star of Bethlehem that guided the three Wise Men to baby Jesus— an iconic symbol of Christmas in the Philippines. 🌟

Though the man’s eyes are covered by a straw hat, the corner of his mouth lifts in a slight smile, carrying the same lightness and joy Filipinos have as Christmas draws near.

The nation celebrates the 86th Birthday of National Artist Gemino Abad.

Gemino Abad has profoundly influenced the field of literature through his diverse roles as a writer, critic, scholar, literary historian, and anthologist. His significant contributions are reflected in his impressive body of work, comprising 51 published books that highlight his exceptional talent and commitment. This collection includes ten poetry volumes, nine volumes of literary criticism, two volumes dedicated to his own poetics, two short story collections, a comprehensive five-volume historical anthology of Philippine poetry in English, and a six-volume anthology of Philippine short stories in English, covering the years from 1956 to 2009.

As a distinguished literary figure, Gemino Abad possesses extensive experience as a director, educator, and judge within the literary community. He has been invited to present at both national and international conferences, and his work has garnered recognition in esteemed publications. His poetry has been translated into several languages, and he has received numerous awards for his contributions to literature. Additionally, he has represented the Philippines at various international literary festivals, including those held in Rome, Tehran, Granada, and Kosovo.
