The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) proudly announces and welcomes its new leader , ATTY. ANGELITO DLP MAGNO. With the MalacaΓ±angβs acceptance of former Director Jaime B. Santiagoβs irrevocable resignation, Director Magno now serves as the Officer-in-Charge of the NBI.
Director Magno is a career officer, a seasoned investigator who has devoted more than thirty-three (33) years of service to the Bureau, beginning as a project worker in 1991, he steadily rose through the ranks as Special Investigator, Investigation Agent, Head Agent, Regional Director, to Assistant Director, prior to his designation as Officer-in-Charge. His progression through every level of responsibility has equipped him with full spectrum of Investigative, operational, and managerial skills necessary to lead the NBI.
Over the course of his career, Director Magno has held some of the Bureauβs most crucial assignments. As Chief of the Special Action Unit, he led high-profile operations, including the pursuit and arrest of major fugitives. As Regional Director in Regions III, I, IV-A, and X, he managed wide jurisdiction in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, refining his ability to oversee complex Investigations and large personnel complements. At the executive level, he successively led the Regional Operations Service, Investigative Service, Information and Communication Technology Service, and Legal Service, demonstrating both versatility and competence in handling the Bureau`s most critical functions.
Under his leadership, the Bureau achieved major milestones, among them the interception of P3.8 billion worth of illegal drugs in Pampanga, the successful pursuit of the Degamo-Teves murder cases, the crackdown on falsified civil registry documents used by foreign syndicates, the dismantling of the Socorro Bayanihan child exploitation network, and the Investigation into the MT Princess Empress oil spill which held liable both government officials and private corporations. His earlier assignments at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) also underscored his operational depth, where he supervised interdiction against human trafficking, investigated terrorism-related threats, and coordinated closely with other security agencies.
Director Magno embodies the qualities of an ideal NBI Director: integrity, competence, operational credibility, and proven leadership across all levels of the Bureau. His extensive service record, breadth of experience, and tested judgment uniquely position him to lead the NBI as the principal Investigative arm of the Department of Justice and as a strong partner of the government in advancing justice, law enforcement, and institutional modernization.
Director Magno anchors his leadership on the core principles of the Bureau: Nobility, Bravery and Integrity guided with meritocracy, skill, teamwork, and accountability.
As an insider-leader, it is his vision to renew the esprits de corps within the institution, to preserve the institutional knowledge, and reinforce the investigative capacity of the Bureau in order to ensure the public of a quality service. He urged all NBI personnel to consistently abide by the law and make ethical decisions. He reminded them that they can demonstrate their loyalty to the country through sincere and genuine service. He is confident that the men and women of the NBI are capable of rebuilding public trust in the government.
His commitment to serving the public with integrity, competence and loyalty is his way of expressing his sincerest gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for trusting him to lead the NBI and his heartfelt thanks to the former Department of Justice Secretary, now current Ombudsman, Jesus Crispin Remulla , for providing him the opportunity to continue serving the public as the Officer-in-Charge of this premier institution.
