Blue Dragon mentors attend AI training on their SLAC.
Bauan East Central School successfully conducted a School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) session aimed at enhancing teachers' digital competencies through the effective and responsible application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning at the elementary level. The activity served as a professional learning opportunity for teachers to explore innovative technologies that support quality instruction while remaining aligned with the standards and goals of the Department of Education.
The SLAC featured Ms. Jhona Mendoza, Ms. Marinell Dinglasan, and Mr. Darwin Abe as resource speakers. They shared practical demonstrations and hands-on strategies on how AI-powered tools can be utilized to improve lesson preparation and classroom instruction. The discussions centered on the use of AI in developing ILAW Daily Lesson Plans (DLPs), enabling teachers to organize lesson content more efficiently while ensuring alignment with curriculum standards and intended learning competencies.
In addition, the resource speakers demonstrated how AI can assist teachers in preparing a variety of instructional materials, including worksheets, storybooks, visual learning resources, and interactive learning activities that cater to the diverse learning needs of elementary learners. The participants were also introduced to Canva AI, where they explored its features for designing engaging presentations, classroom visuals, learning materials, and other educational resources that promote learner engagement and creativity.
The session emphasized that while AI is a valuable tool for improving efficiency and enhancing instructional practices, it should serve only as a support to teachers' professional expertise. The speakers reminded all participants that the human touchโmanifested through teachers' creativity, sound pedagogical judgment, contextualization of lessons, and genuine care for learnersโmust always remain at the heart of the teaching and learning process. AI-generated outputs should therefore be carefully reviewed, refined, and contextualized to ensure accuracy, appropriateness, and responsiveness to learners' needs.
The SLAC concluded with an interactive sharing of insights and best practices, where teachers expressed their commitment to integrating AI responsibly and ethically in their daily instructional tasks. The activity reinforced Bauan East Central School's commitment to fostering innovation, continuous professional development, and the effective integration of emerging technologies to deliver quality, learner-centered education.
