The National Nutrition Council (NNC) supports the Department of Healthโ€™s (DOH) advisory reminding the public to remain vigilant against hantaviruses and other rodent-borne diseases through proper sanitation, food safety, and preventive health practices.

While there are currently no confirmed cases of hantavirus in the Philippines, maintaining clean surroundings and observing proper hygiene remain important in reducing health risks associated with rodent infestation and environmental contamination.

The NNC also encourages the public to follow the Pinggang Pinoy food guide by consuming balanced meals consisting of Go, Grow, and Glow foods in appropriate portions. Staying properly hydrated, maintaining an active lifestyle, and making healthy food choices are likewise important in promoting overall health and well-being, especially during the summer season.

To help prevent rodent-borne diseases:

- Keep homes and surroundings clean
- Store food and water properly
- Practice proper waste disposal
- Avoid direct contact with rodent droppings and nesting materials
- Wear gloves and face masks when cleaning potentially contaminated areas
- Disinfect contaminated surfaces before sweeping or wiping to minimize airborne particles

Individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headache, or difficulty breathing following possible exposure to rodents are advised to seek immediate medical consultation.

By keeping our surroundings clean, practicing proper hygiene, and making healthy lifestyle and food choices, we can all contribute to preventing disease and promoting safer and healthier communities.

The First 1,000 Days (F1K) covers the period from conception until a child reaches 2 years of age. This is a critical window of growth and development, where the foundation for lifelong health, learning, and well-being is built.

According to the Philippine Pediatric Society, proper nutrition during this stage is essential. Any nutritional damage that occurs during this period may be irreversible and can have long-term effects on a childโ€™s health and development.

For more information about the First 1,000 Days and its importance in early childhood development, please read here:

HYPERTENSION AWARENESS MONTH โค๏ธ๐Ÿฉบ

May is a reminder for every Filipino to โ€œKnow Your Numbersโ€ and take action against hypertensionโ€”a growing public health concern in the country.

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is often called the โ€œsilent killerโ€ because it may show no symptoms but can lead to serious conditions like heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems.

๐Ÿ“Š In the Philippines, 1 in 10 adults (20โ€“59 years old) has elevated blood pressure, and the risk increases with age.

In CAR, cases are risingโ€”highlighting how lifestyle factors like poor diet, physical inactivity, and stress contribute to this growing burden.

๐Ÿฅ— Good news? Hypertension is preventable and manageable.
Simple daily choices can protect your heart:
โœ” Reduce sodium intake (less than 2,000 mg/day)
โœ” Limit processed and fatty foods
โœ” Eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
โœ” Stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle
โœ” Monitor your blood pressure regularly

๐Ÿ’ก Small changes today can lead to a healthier tomorrow. Read the full article in the comments below. ๐Ÿ‘‡
