Leyte farmer-beneficiaries receive 10 pregnant buffaloes
In line with its continuing efforts to strengthen livestock production and support rural livelihoods, the DA-Philippine Carabao Center at Visayas State University (DA-PCC at VSU) spearheaded the entrustment of 10 pregnant crossbred dairy buffaloes under the Carabao Herd Buildup (CHB) Project to farmer-beneficiaries in Carigara and Baybay City, Leyte on June 2, 2026.
The Macalpi Community Multi-purpose Cooperative (MCMC) in Carigara received two buffaloes, while the Hibunawan Integrated Farmers’ Association (HIFA) in Baybay City was entrusted with eight buffaloes.
The CHB Project is a continuing initiative that aims to expand the population of genetically improved dairy animals, enhance local breeding programs, and boost livestock productivity among farmer-beneficiaries. By providing quality breeding stocks, the project supports the development of sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthens community-based dairy enterprises in the region.
Through these interventions, the DA-PCC at VSU continues to support local farmers and farmer organizations in building a more resilient and productive livestock sector in Eastern Visayas. [By: Annie Bolotaolo]
