THE TASSLE WAS WORTH THE HASSLE!

The Visayas State University – Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Unit (VSU-ROTCU), under the leadership of LTC CELESTE FRANK L SAYSON INF (GSC) PA, ROTC Commandant, proudly congratulates two of its Graduate Military Assistants (GMA) for successfully completing their academic journey at Visayas State University during its 73rd Commencement Exercises held on 22-23 July 2026.

Juggling a busy student life by being at class by daytime and being an advance cadet officer in the evening and on weekends, enduring both the academic pressure in the classroom and the heat of the sun during ROTC training days, is a very rare feat that only a few Viscans have been able to accomplish. Your years of hard work, dedication, discipline, and perseverance is truly a very commendable characteristic. May your example be an inspiration to all Viscans as they also strive to achieve their well-coveted diploma and toga!

Today, we honor the men and women whose courage, sacrifice, and love for the country helped shape the nation we call home. Their legacy reminds us that the freedom we enjoy today was built by generations who chose to stand for something greater than themselves.

Honoring our heroes should not end with remembering their names. Their greatest legacy is the responsibility they left to every Filipino to uphold what is right, protect our nation’s dignity, and contribute to the betterment of our communities. May their courage inspire us to live with purpose and leave behind a legacy worthy of the nation they fought for.

VALUE FOCUS OF THE WEEK 35: COURAGE

Nelson Mandela once said, "Courage [is] not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." Mandela's profound statement encapsulates an invaluable principle for a man and a woman of courage—one who neither negates the presence of fear nor denies its attempts to intimidate. However, one who has the grace to govern and the power to prevail, such that doubt is silenced. It loses its grip, and the man and woman of courage take charge to uphold moral standards and ethical principles even in the midst of adversity and opposition.

In a society where moral decay and decline seem to be the norm and are aggravated by apathy and passivity, we need men and women of courage, those who do not conform but instead are the voice and catalyst of change in rebuilding the moral infrastructure of our society by transforming the nation through exemplary values. These are the men and women of courage who are willing to die to their self-interests for the sake of the common good and the nation. They speak the values, model the values, and live the values in their homes, their respective agencies or institutions, and their communities, until we see the Philippines rise and become a value-laden society whose hallmark of public service is characterized by righteousness, transparency, and accountability.

This is a real test of courage—to stand for righteousness, for values, and for moral principles when circumstances speak otherwise. During the time of Daniel, he was compelled to bow before the idol of Nebuchadnezzar. It was against his principles, so despite the order that those who would not bow down would be punished severely, he took courage not to lay aside his principles. He stood his ground on what is right before the sight of God. The idol of Nebuchadnezzar speaks about unrighteousness and illegal and immoral acts. Many times, we are forced by circumstances to bow and go with the flow of corruption, greed, and irregularity. Like Daniel, we must stand on our ground and not give in to these wiles of the enemy. Have the courage to stand for what is right. Have the courage to do what is right before God, country, and fellowmen. "Faced with what is right, to leave it undone shows a lack of courage.":

ACTION PLAN

• Identify the values and moral standards we have been fighting for or intend to fight to be re-established in our families, agencies, and communities.

• In our attempt to re-establish the values and moral standards, identify the possible oppositions and challenges we may be encountering. Pray and discuss with like-minded people about how we can conquer them.

DECLARATION

We are courageous people. With the aid of the Almighty God, we have the grace to govern and the power to prevail. We dare to speak the values, model the values, and live the values until the moral infrastructure of our families, agencies, and our nation is rebuilt.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, teach us to be courageous. Grant us the grace not to be passive in the moral decay and decline in our society. Stir in our hearts the courage and the tenacity to pursue righteousness and live exemplary lives. Amen

This registration applies to:
• Students who have chosen ROTC but have not yet completed the VSU-ROTC registration form
• Students who were unable to scan the registration QR code during the NSTP General Orientation
• Students who have not yet registered for an NSTP component and wish to take ROTC
• Students who initially registered for CWTS but now wish to take ROTC, subject to the applicable registration and processing procedures
• Other students whose ROTC registration is still pending or has not yet been recorded by the VSU-ROTC Unit

The VSU-ROTC Unit is currently consolidating and validating ROTC registrations to properly establish the official list of MS1 cadets.

1. Access the registration link provided in this post, or scan the QR code.
2. Complete all required information accurately.
3. Review your entries before submitting the form.
4. Submit the registration form before the deadline.

Students are strongly encouraged to register as early as possible and not wait until the final hours.

After registering for ROTC, students are also reminded to complete their self-enrollment in the official VSU-ROTC eLearning class through VSU eLearning (VSUEE).

Once enrolled, access the Military Character Module and accomplish the assigned Asynchronous Online Activity.

For each subject or topic, cadets are required to:

Read the Learning Guide/s → Accomplish the Learning Task/s or Quiz → Submit the required activity

Please regularly check the VSU-ROTC eLearning class for announcements, instructions, and other course requirements.

Q: I attended the NSTP Orientation but was not able to scan the ROTC registration QR code. Can I still register?
A: Yes. Complete the VSU-ROTC Registration Form using the link or QR code provided in this post before the deadline.

Q: I have not registered for any NSTP component yet. Can I register for ROTC?
A: Yes. Students who intend to take ROTC should complete the VSU-ROTC registration within the prescribed period.

Q: I registered for CWTS but now want to take ROTC. What should I do?
A: Complete the VSU-ROTC Registration Form. Your registration will be subject to the applicable NSTP registration and processing procedures.

Q: Can I join an ROTC support unit without registering for ROTC?
A: No. The VSU-ROTC support units are part of the VSU-ROTC Program. Students interested in joining a support unit must be registered under the ROTC component.

Q: What should I do after registering for ROTC?
A: Complete your self-enrollment in the VSU-ROTC eLearning class and accomplish the assigned asynchronous activity under the Military Character Module.

Q: What if I already registered for ROTC?
A: If you have already completed the VSU-ROTC Registration Form, you do not need to submit another registration. You don't have to wait/expect for a confirmation email as well for you are automatically registered once you accomplish and submit the registration form. Make sure to complete your VSU eLearning self-enrollment and assigned activity.

The VSU-ROTC Unit acknowledges and appreciates the concerns, questions, and willingness of students and members of the VSU community to help, inform, and assist fellow students regarding the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC), National Service Training Program (NSTP), and related activities/matters.

We would like to remind everyone to exercise caution and responsibility when receiving, sharing, or acting upon information circulating online, particularly information that has not been officially issued or verified by the VSU-ROTC Unit.

Recently, various posts, messages, opinions, announcements, and other information concerning ROTC policies, training activities, requirements, uniforms and line items, procedures, support units, schedules, and other ROTC and NSTP-related matters have been circulating through social media, group chats, and other online platforms.

While some may be shared with good intentions, not all information circulating online necessarily reflects the official and current policies, procedures, instructions, or position of the VSU-ROTC Unit.

Students are therefore reminded to:

1. VERIFY BEFORE YOU BELIEVE, SHARE, AND ACT.
Before accepting, reposting, or acting upon information concerning VSU-ROTC, NSTP, requirements, policies, schedules, or procedures, make sure it comes from a legitimate and authorized source.

2. REFER TO OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION CHANNELS.
For announcements, instructions, requirements, schedules, policies, procedures, and other official matters, refer primarily to the official communication channels and platforms of the VSU-ROTC Unit. Official announcements should take precedence over screenshots, forwarded messages, social media posts, hearsay, or unofficial sources.

3. BE CAREFUL WITH UNIFORMS, LINE ITEMS, AND ONLINE TRANSACTIONS.
Posts or information concerning the buying and selling of ROTC-related paraphernalia are NOT officially endorsed by the VSU-ROTC Unit. Students are advised to refrain from engaging in unverified transactions, as these may result in financial loss, scams, or other safety risks. Verify first with the unit before making any purchase.

4. DISTINGUISH FACTS FROM PERSONAL OPINIONS AND EXPERIENCES.
Personal experiences and opinions may be useful, but they should not be treated as official policies, instructions, or procedures of the unit. Policies and procedures may change, and circumstances may differ from one training period or institution to another.

5. VERIFY INFORMATION CONCERNING SUPPORT UNITS AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS.
Information regarding support units, assignments, affiliations, requirements, responsibilities, or processes should be verified through the proper VSU-ROTC authorities. When uncertain, ask the unit directly rather than relying on assumptions or unofficial information, or wait for official announcements/advisory from the unit.

6. AVOID CONTRIBUTING TO THE SPREAD OF MISINFORMATION.
Before sharing information, ask:

“Is this official? Is this current? Is this verified?”

If uncertain, it is better to pause, verify, and ask the proper authority rather than unintentionally causing confusion among fellow students.

We understand that most people who share information do so because they genuinely want to help, and we appreciate that willingness to assist one another. Let us simply make sure that what we share is accurate, verified, and responsible.

The VSU-ROTC Unit remains committed to providing students with accurate, timely, and appropriate information concerning ROTC and NSTP matters. We also kindly ask for the patience and understanding of our fellow Viscans whenever there are instances of delay or other challenges as we work to address concerns and keep everyone properly informed.

ROTC MS1 COURSE ORIENTATION

As an official avenue for clarification, all concerned ROTC MS1 cadets are informed that an ROTC MS1 Course Orientation will be conducted during the next face-to-face/in-person ROTC training or instruction.

The orientation will provide an opportunity to discuss and address matters concerning the BASIC ROTC Course, including course instruction, requirements, organization, procedures, and other concerns or questions that cadets may have.

The date, time, venue, and other details of the face-to-face instruction will be announced separately through the official communication channels of the VSU-ROTC Unit. Cadets are encouraged to attend and take this opportunity to raise concerns, ask questions, and obtain clarification directly from the unit.

VSU-ROTC eLEARNING PLATFORM

To help all ROTC Student Cadets access the official VSU-ROTC eLearning class, we are sharing this infographic containing the step-by-step self-enrollment procedure and answers to frequently asked questions.

Please follow the instructions and make sure that you are enrolled in the correct VSU-ROTC eLearning class.

NOTE: The VSU-ROTC Unit has not yet sent individual enrollment keys through email, as the ROTC enrollment process is still ongoing. We are currently consolidating and validating registrations for students who have chosen ROTC, including those whose registrations are still being processed. Once the enrollment records are finalized, we'll provide further instructions through the appropriate channels.

In the meantime, students who have officially chosen ROTC may use the enrollment key provided above to access the VSU-ROTC eLearning class.

If you encounter any difficulty during enrollment, refer to the troubleshooting guide provided in the infographic, or you may unenroll yourself and re-enroll in the course. For concerns that remain unresolved, take a screenshot of the error and coordinate with the VSU-ROTC Unit through the official communication channels.

ASYNCHRONOUS ONLINE ACTIVITY

As part of the continuing ROTC instruction, all MS1 Basic ROTC Cadets are directed to accomplish the asynchronous activity through the VSU-ROTC eLearning platform.

Under the Military Character Module, cadets are required to:

1. Read and study the Learning Guides provided under the said module.
2. Accomplish the corresponding Learning Task or Quiz for each subject or topic.
3. Complete and submit all required activities through the eLearning platform.

Cadets are encouraged to read and understand the learning materials carefully before accomplishing the corresponding activities and quizzes.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE

Support-unit membership is exclusive to officially enrolled VSU-ROTC students and is another role within the VSU-ROTC Program. Selected students remain ROTC cadets and are expected to fulfill the regular Basic ROTC requirements while carrying out the responsibilities of their respective support unit.

HOW TO APPLY

Scan the QR code on the photo or visit the link for your chosen support unit and complete the corresponding application form.

Please note that the application does not guarantee acceptance. All applicants will undergo the appropriate screening and selection process.

OTHER SUPPORT UNITS

Additional support units, including Headquarters Support, Military Police, Sponsors, and other support elements, will be discussed during the MS1 Course Orientation on the first training day this Saturday, including their respective roles and application or selection procedures.

If you were not able to scan the QR code or complete your registration during today's NSTP General Orientation, you still have the opportunity to register and enlist in the VSU-ROTC.

All students who wish to take ROTC as their NSTP component are reminded to complete their registration by today, 22 August 2026.

This includes students, but is not limited to, those who:

• Were unable to scan the registration QR code during the orientation
• Were unable to complete the registration process
• Have not yet registered for an NSTP component

INTERESTED IN JOINING AN ROTC SUPPORT UNIT?

Students who are interested in becoming part of the ROTC Band, Medics, Media Team, Headquarters Support, Military Police, Sponsors, and other ROTC support units must likewise select and register under the ROTC component.

These support units are part of the VSU-ROTC Program and operate within the ROTC training structure. Joining a support unit therefore requires registration under ROTC as your NSTP component.

Whether you see yourself in formation, providing medical support, documenting activities, supporting ceremonies and events, assisting with unit operations, or contributing in other ways, there is an opportunity to serve within the ROTC program.
