The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) warns the public regarding reports of an individual falsely impersonating the Commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard (CPCG) through phone call.

The PCG clarifies that these phone calls are fraudulent and unauthorized. The CPCG does not engage in such communications for personal, financial, or unofficial purposes, nor does he solicit monetary assistance through calls or any other means.

All PCG personnel are likewise reminded to exercise vigilance and refrain from engaging with or responding to unverified calls that may compromise the integrity and credibility of the organization.

The PCG is currently coordinating with concerned authorities to investigate the incident and to pursue appropriate legal action against those responsible.

The PCG reiterates its commitment to protecting the public and upholding trust by ensuring the dissemination of accurate and verified information.

In line with the PCG iCARE Program and in celebration of Women’s Empowerment Month, on 240900H March 2026, the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Baybay served as a resource speaker on Natural Disaster Preparedness for the members of the Bunga Compact Farmers Association (BuCFA) and the Bunga Women’s Association (BuWA). The activity was conducted upon the invitation of the Punong Barangay of Brgy. Bunga, Ms. Anamelle M. Bantaculo.

The activity specifically highlighted the critical role of women in disaster risk reduction and management, emphasizing what women can do and how they can contribute to disaster preparedness in their capacity as key members of the household and community. It underscored their role in ensuring preparedness before, during, and after natural hazards such as typhoons, flooding, and landslides. Practical guidance was provided on early warning awareness, emergency planning, evacuation procedures, and basic safety measures tailored to the needs of families and other vulnerable sectors.

In addition, discussions were conducted on the Safety, Security, and Environmental Numbering (SSEN) System, as well as the guidelines entitled “Paalala sa mga Mangingisda sa Panahon ng Tag-ulan at Bagyo,” to further strengthen community awareness on maritime safety during adverse weather conditions.

This initiative successfully delivered essential knowledge and practical preparedness strategies to the community while honoring and empowering women as key agents of resilience, leadership, and safety within their households and the broader community.

Coast Guard Sub- Station Baybay, in coordination with the Baybay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), and with the support of Barangay Bunga and Hilapnitan officials, successfully conducted a search and retrieval operation today, March 14, 2026, at approximately 2.5 nautical miles west of the Port of Specialty Pulp Manufacturing Inc. (SPMI), within the seawaters of Barangay Hilapnitan, Baybay City.

The operation was launched in response to a report of a half-submerged motorbanca owned by Mr. Esgardo Escabarte, 63, and Mrs. Maria Escabarte, 56, residents of Barangay Bunga. The couple had earlier been rescued by Bantay Dagat personnel after their vessel encountered distress.

Through swift coordination and teamwork among the Coast Guard Baybay, Baybay City CDRRMO, and barangay officials, the motorbanca was secured and the situation was brought under control, ensuring the safety of the affected individuals and preventing further maritime hazards.

This incident highlights the importance of vigilance, cooperation, and preparedness in safeguarding lives and property in our coastal communities.

Personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station Baybay (CGSS Baybay), in coordination with Coast Guard Station Western Leyte (CGS Western Leyte) and the Special Operations Unit – Eastern Visayas (SOU-EV), rendered duty as lifeguards during the third day of the swimming competition of the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Games 2026 held at the Binaybayon Aquatic Center, Baybay City.

Demonstrating vigilance, professionalism, and unwavering commitment, Coast Guard personnel ensured the safety and security of all participating athletes, coaches, event officials, and spectators throughout the conduct of the competition. Strategic deployment and continuous monitoring of the swimming area were carried out to guarantee immediate response capability in the event of any water-related emergency.

The presence of the Philippine Coast Guard underscored the vital role of preparedness, teamwork, and inter-agency cooperation in promoting a safe and successful regional sporting event.

The Philippine Coast Guard remains steadfast in its mandate to protect lives and uphold public safety — both at sea and ashore — through proactive engagement and community partnership.

On or about 28 February 2026, 0600H — The Coast Guard Sub-Station Baybay, together with the Special Operations Unit–Eastern Visayas (SOU-EV), Marine Environmental Protection Unit-EV,1105th Squadron of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) and Baybay City Fisheries and Management Office divers, actively participated in the Coastal Clean-Up and Scubasurero activity hosted by the Organization of Biology Students (OBios) under the Department of Biological Sciences of Visayas State University (VSU) Baybay.

The activity was conducted as part of the National Environmental Awareness Month celebration, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in protecting marine ecosystems and promoting sustainable coastal practices.

Personnel from the Coast Guard, SOU-EV, and PCGA 1105th Squadron joined student volunteers and faculty members in shoreline clean-up operations and underwater debris collection. This initiative highlighted the shared responsibility of government agencies, academic institutions, and community organizations in safeguarding biodiversity and ensuring the safety of local fishing communities.

The Philippine Coast Guard commends OBios and VSU Baybay for spearheading this environmental advocacy and reaffirms its commitment to supporting community-driven programs that strengthen environmental stewardship, maritime safety, and public awareness.

LOOK: On or about 260600H February 2026, personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station Baybay together with the Baybay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office personnel conducted a maritime patrol in the seawaters off Baybay City. The activity was carried out in connection with the early preparations for the upcoming Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet 2026, which will be hosted by the City of Baybay.

The patrol forms part of the mandated functions of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to ensure maritime safety, security, and environmental protection. CGSS Baybay personnel monitored vessel movements, verified compliance with safety regulations, and maintained visibility in the area to safeguard both local fishermen and visiting delegations expected during the athletic meet.

The Philippine Coast Guard remains committed to supporting community events and ensuring the safety of maritime stakeholders. Through proactive patrols and close coordination with local government units, the PCG continues to uphold its mission of protecting lives and promoting safe seas.

LOOK: As part of the initiative on 25 February 2026, each watercraft was assigned a unique identification number as part of Security, Safety and Environmental Numbering system (SSEN) to enhance maritime security and safety within the sub-station’s area of responsibility. This measure aims to prevent the use of watercraft in maritime infractions, particularly piracy and terrorism, while promoting responsible practices that safeguard the marine environment.

The activity also sought to raise awareness among local communities by disseminating information on maritime security threats and prevention measures. Through targeted campaigns, CGSS Baybay emphasized the importance of maritime safety practices, encouraging vigilance and cooperation among fishermen, boat operators, and community groups.

CGSS Baybay remains committed to strengthening its partnership with local communities in order to build a safer, cleaner, and more secure maritime environment.
