𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | Vox Scholaris Editorial Board takes oath, unveils publication plans

The Editorial Board members of Vox Scholaris formally took its oath of office, officially beginning its service as the Muir Woods Academy, Inc. (MWAI) High School Department's student publication during the school's flag ceremony, August 3.

The oath signified more than a ceremonial tradition, as it marked the Editorial Board's commitment to uphold truth, integrity, responsibility, and excellence in every responsibility entrusted to them as campus journalists.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, the newly inducted Editor-in-Chief Shivanie Martin delivered her inaugural address, expressing the Editorial Board's gratitude to the school administration, and the entire school community for their trust and confidence while affirming the publication's commitment to serve students through ethical, responsible, and truthful campus journalism.

Furthermore, Martin announced that one of the publication's first major initiatives for the school year is ASCEND 2026: School-Based Press Conference, scheduled on Aug. 6, 8, and 11, which will provide aspiring campus journalists opportunities to demonstrate their journalistic skills.

“ASCEND 2026 will serve as the selection process for the students who will proudly represent Muir Woods Academy high school department in the District School Press Conference. As the very first challenge of our newly inducted Editorial Board, we are determined to give our best; not only to earn the opportunity to compete at the next level, but also to demonstrate the excellence, discipline, teamwork, and integrity that define a true campus journalist,” Martin emphasized.

She also enunciated that Vox Scholaris will publish three official newspaper issues throughout the school year, consisting of a midyear issue, an end-of-school-year issue, and a special competition edition intended to document significant school events and highlight student achievements.

In line with its commitment to developing competent student journalists, Martin shared that the Editorial Board will conduct regular trainings and workshops in news writing, editing, broadcasting, photojournalism, editorial cartooning, layout and design, literary writing, and other journalistic disciplines to strengthen members' skills through continuous learning, consistent practice, and mentorship.

Recognizing the responsibilities that come with campus journalism, Martin emphasized that every article, photograph, editorial cartoon, broadcast, layout, literary piece, and television production requires dedication, teamwork, research, interviews, revisions, and perseverance—highlighting that these experiences will shape the Editorial Board into responsible journalists and student leaders who uphold the highest standards of the profession.

As she concluded her message, Martin honored the newly inducted Editorial Board to faithfully uphold their oath through integrity, discipline, and service, encouraging the entire student body to stand behind Vox Scholaris in its mission to amplify student voices, uphold the truth of the MWAI High School Department, and cultivate a lasting legacy of excellence in campus journalism.

The oath-taking ceremony symbolized the Editorial Board's official commitment to uphold the principles of truth, integrity, accountability, and excellence as the student publication of the MWAI High School Department.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | MWAI reinstates mandatory face mask policy amid rise in flu-like illnesses

Muir Woods Academy, Inc. (MWAI) reinstated its mandatory face mask policy in the High School Department after a rise in reported flu and influenza-like illness cases, requiring students, faculty, and staff to wear masks inside the school premises, Aug. 3.

High School Principal Catherine A. Capistrano said the policy was reinstated after School Nurse Aileen M. Bartolome observed an increasing number of students seeking class excuses due to flu-related illnesses.

The school advisory also noted the ongoing flu season, prompting the administration to strengthen its health protocols and help prevent the possible spread of illness within the campus.

Under the temporary policy, all high school students, faculty, and staff are required to wear face masks while inside the school premises. The measure is expected to remain in effect for about a week, with school officials set to monitor the situation and reassess the policy by Friday.

Aside from the mask requirement, the school urged students and personnel to observe proper health practices, including frequent handwashing or sanitizing, covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and staying home when experiencing flu-like symptoms.

The school also encouraged everyone to get adequate rest and maintain proper nutrition as part of its efforts to keep the school community healthy during the ongoing flu season.

𝗞𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗠 | Wala Akong PAX!

Wala akong PAX. At mas lalo na wala akong balak manahimik.

During the ceremony, the officers recited their oath of office, affirming their commitment to fulfill the duties and responsibilities entrusted to them.

When asked about their aspirations and responsibilities as SSLG officers, Taeza and Dumlao expressed their commitment to serving the student body and carrying out their respective duties.

“I accepted the role as the SSLG Adviser with the hope of using the experiences I gained as a former SSLG member to guide the student leaders in becoming responsible and effective leaders throughout the school year,” Taeza said.

“I can't promise to be perfect, but I can promise to give my best, and I will balance my duties to ensure that I can fulfill my role in the organization,” Dumlao said.
