Senior Citizen Officers for a Day Receive Recognition and Incentives

The celebration of Elderly Filipino Week 2026 continued with the recognition of the participating Senior Citizen Officers for a Day, who received their certificates of appreciation and commendation, incentives, and tokens during a ceremony held on the afternoon of October 5, 2026.

As part of the program, each participating senior citizen received an incentive or honorarium equivalent to the one-day salary of the municipal official or department head whose role they assumed for the day. This is in accordance with Municipal Ordinance No. 2011-01, โ€œAn Ordinance Enacting a Senior Citizen Officer for a Day and Appropriating Funds Thereof.โ€

Through the initiative, senior citizens were given the opportunity to experience local governance firsthand by taking on selected roles and responsibilities in the municipal government, while also recognizing their continuing contributions and active participation in the community.

The LGU Mankayan extends its appreciation for the collaborative efforts of the Federated Senior Citizens Association of Mankayan, headed by former Municipal Councilor Marciana L. Ambas, whose involvement helped make the activity possible.

Behind the successful conduct of the activity were the MSWD Office, headed by Joan G. Damoslog, and the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), headed by Adelaida Q. Becasen, which spearheaded the planning and implementation of the activity.

The Municipal Officials of Mankayan, headed by Mayor Hon. Cesar R. Pasiwen, remain committed to supporting initiatives that recognize the contributions of senior citizens and provide them with meaningful opportunities to participate in the affairs of the community.

Planting Trees, Growing a Legacy

As part of the CSC Celebration the LGU-Mankayan conducted a meaningful tree-planting activity at the Agaki Watershed, Balili, Mankayan, Benguet, planting pine and coffee trees for forest protection, watershed conservation, and sustainable livelihood.

The MENRO provided IEC on environmental stewardship, the DENR-CENRO shared practical guidance on proper pine-tree planting and care, while the MDRRMO imparted basic first-aid knowledge useful in everyday life and emergencies.

More than planting trees, we planted hope, strengthened preparedness, and renewed our commitment to serve and protect the community.
