Hey PGMN,
We want you to succeed. But success may include a cleansing of your own ranks. It is high time for a leadership change. Your founder is in jail, not because he exposed the truth, but he allegedly wanted money in exchange of not exposing the truth. The Philippines is aching for an independent media that is friendly to right-wingers, us included. When we first heard about you, many from us were quite happy, that at last, there is a media institution that can balance the mainstream narrative. At last, there are anchors that are openly against wokeness. But we cannot be seen as anti-woke and yet be involved with corruption.
The common narrative of the Left is that the Right is silent with corruption, because we are involved with corruption. Happily, PGMN is doing a great job in opposing such claims by being openly anti-woke, and yet, exposing the corrupt politicians in many of its episodes. However, what happened in the 6th of May is a great blow against the image of PGMN. Allow us to express the questions in our mind.
Why is Mr. Mabanta in a location where there are also suitcases of money? What is he doing in such location? Second, why did he involve the whole PGMN in his statement of defense issued in the page of PGMN? Was his alleged action last 6th of May known by the PGMN as an institution or he has done it in his private capacity as an individual? Third, why did the PGMN issue the statement made by Mr. Mabanta? Is PGMN siding with Mr. Mabanta or there are still independent fact-finding within the organization to ensure that the Media institution will survive despite what happened to its founder?
For us, we see PGMN as a future Fox News potential. Many from us are hoping that you truly become a dominant Media Company that is friendly with the right-wing. But if PGMN will fail in its first test of credibility, maybe, the Right-wing will need to once again hope for someone that is truly the ally of the non-woke.
We did an internal survey. Many from the Right still trusts PGMN. But investigation will push through starting yesterday. The moderates have lost their trust. The more that these investigations reveal the evidence against Mr. Mabanta, probably, many will also follow such loss of confidence. We think this is the time for well-meaning, country-loving, and anti-corruption advocates inside the PGMN to do the right thing.
Stay neutral while investigations push through. Do your own independent fact-finding. And if proven guilty, then hold them accountable. Because as conservatives, we believe that even the most conservative or right-wing person out there can commit criminal actions. So if there are accusations or even evidence-based entrapment operations against such person, our duty is not to side with them. Rather, we need to conduct our own investigation, and then have our own decision.
Maybe, if you do this, we can definitely have a true right-wing friendly media in the Philippines. But if not, then, we will keep hoping that in the future there will be one, if not, many.
