On August 5–6, 2026, the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) of Bislig City, Surigao del Sur conducted a Technical Benchmarking and Planning Research Immersion in Iloilo City to gain valuable insights into innovative planning practices, development strategies, and effective local governance initiatives.

The activity provided the Bislig City delegation with an opportunity to engage with the Iloilo City Office of the City Planning and Development Coordinator, learning from the city's experiences, programs, planning approaches, and development initiatives that have contributed to its sustainable growth and effective governance.

Beyond observing successful practices, the immersion served as an avenue to understand the systems behind them, identify approaches that may be adapted to our local context, and translate valuable insights into actionable strategies for Bislig City.

The CPDO of Bislig City sincerely extends its gratitude to the Local Government Unit of Iloilo City, through the Office of the City Planning and Development Coordinator, particularly Arch. Keith Camena, Mr. Cedric Jamera, and Mr. Mel Corral, for the warm welcome, generosity, and meaningful knowledge-sharing extended to our delegation.

We also express our heartfelt appreciation to the CMO Tour Guide Iloilo City, especially to Mr. Jenry Tiwok, for accompanying us in exploring the beauty, culture, heritage, and rich history of Iloilo City. Your guidance and stories added depth and meaning to our immersion beyond the technical discussions.

On July 24, 2026, the City Planning & Development Office - Bislig City participated in the "Paghandum sa Kabilin: Stakeholders' Meeting on the Cultural Heritage Documentation and Assessment of Bislig City," spearheaded by the NEMSU Bislig - Research and Innovation Office.

The meeting served as a collaborative platform to present the proposed Cultural Research Assessment, bringing together representatives from the Local Government Unit of Bislig, the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR), the Tourism Office, the Bislig Tourism Council, the Culture and the Arts Council, and other key stakeholders. Discussions focused on the objectives, scope, and strategic direction of the initiative, emphasizing the importance of documenting, preserving, and promoting Bislig City's rich cultural heritage through research-based and community-driven approaches.

As the city's lead planning office, the CPDO recognizes that cultural heritage is a vital component of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP). Integrating cultural heritage into the CLUP ensures that significant historical sites, indigenous knowledge systems, traditions, and cultural landscapes are considered in land use planning and development policies. This approach promotes balanced growth by safeguarding Bislig City's cultural identity while supporting sustainable tourism, environmental stewardship, and inclusive socio-economic development.

Through strengthened partnerships among the academe, local government, and cultural stakeholders, this initiative reinforces the shared commitment to developing evidence-based planning strategies that preserve Bislig City's rich cultural legacy and integrate heritage conservation into the city's long-term development agenda.
