CAMP BGEN EFIGENIO C. NAVARRO, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro — Police Regional Office MIMAROPA has arrested 66 individuals and recovered or confiscated a combined 29,575 board feet of lumber valued at ₱2,017,900 in 63 operations against illegal logging and the unauthorized possession and transportation of forest products since PBGEN Christopher R. Dela Cruz assumed command on May 8, 2026.

The accomplishment report also recorded 59 reported cases, with 13 filed in court, during the same period.

The operations targeted violations involving the illegal cutting, possession, transportation, and movement of forest products, with police units coordinating with concerned government agencies in the conduct of enforcement activities.

The latest operation was conducted on October 7 in Puerto Princesa City, where personnel of Police Station 6 arrested three individuals and confiscated approximately 119.66 board feet of Apitong lumber valued at ₱17,949.

The operation followed a report from a concerned citizen regarding the alleged transportation of lumber in Purok Maambeng, Barangay Napsan, prompting personnel of Police Station 6 led by PCPT Douglas N. Sabando, Officer-in-Charge, to proceed to the area.

Responding personnel intercepted a black motorcycle carrying 18 pieces of Apitong lumber, while the three individuals were unable to present the required documents, permits, or other papers authorizing the possession and transportation of the forest products.

The three individuals, together with the recovered lumber and motorcycle, were brought to Police Station 6 for documentation, verification, and appropriate disposition in accordance with law.

The three individuals were arrested for alleged violation of Presidential Decree No. 705, or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines, in connection with the unauthorized possession and transportation of forest products.

PBGEN Christopher R. Dela Cruz, Regional Director of PRO MIMAROPA, said protecting the region’s forests requires sustained police enforcement as well as cooperation from communities.

“Our forests are among our most valuable natural resources, and protecting them requires sustained enforcement and active cooperation from our communities. We will continue to act on credible information, work closely with our environmental partners, and hold violators accountable while making sure that every operation is conducted within the law and with due process,” PBGEN Dela Cruz said.

PRO MIMAROPA said police units will continue to coordinate with environmental agencies and respond to reports involving the illegal cutting, possession, and transportation of forest products across the region.

The latest operation also showed how a report from a concerned citizen can lead to immediate police action and help prevent forest products from being moved further into the community.
