After the academic break and intramural activities, the BSU Bokod ROTC unit resumed their regular training on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the CCJE building. The advanced officers conducted a classroom lecture on basic survival and basic life support for the cadets. This aimed to impart valuable insights into surviving in difficult situations and responding to emergencies.
During the lecture, C/Cpt Jay-ar A Bacullo 2cl emphasized that survival in the jungle or anywhere is a skill, requiring the ability to adapt, improvise, and be resourceful in difficult situations. He further discussed various methods for locating directions, specifically shadow tip and watch methods. After the first lecture, the officers, including the basic cadets, moved out of the room for a practicum activity. Officers guided while the cadets executed different methods for finding directions at the BSU Oval. Following this, they continued with the second part of the lecture, focusing on responding to health-related emergencies such as heat stroke and sunburns.
The lecture concluded precisely at 1000 hours, and at 1010 hours, they returned to the oval for drills and ceremonies. At exactly 1100 hours, they began polishing the DMST area for their final activity.
It is crucial for ROTC cadets to learn how to improvise, adapt, be resourceful, and acquire knowledge in order to survive and respond effectively in emergencies or challenging circumstances.
