Goodbye, Habagat!

A gradual shift in the prevailing weather pattern has been observed over the past several days, such as the strengthening high pressure system over East Asia, the southward-migrating Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), and the notable weakening of winds and a decrease in rainfall associated with the Southwest Monsoon.

Forecasts indicate that these conditions are expected to persist in the coming days. In view of this, the Habagat season has officially ended. This also marks the termination of the rainy season over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.

The Philippines will join the global observance of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) 2026 on October 13, with the theme “Resilience Starts at Home.”

The observance highlights the importance of informed and prepared households in building stronger and more resilient communities.

In the Philippines, the observance carries the theme “Panatag na Tahanan at Paaralan” through the expanded Panatag Pilipinas 3.0 campaign. This expanded campaign brings preparedness videos and other related educational materials covering various hazards directly to schools, using them as platforms to promote and cultivate a culture of disaster preparedness and resilience among learners, families, and communities.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐨 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐑𝐑𝐌 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

The Bolinao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) successfully convened its 3rd Quarter Meeting for CY 2026 on September 29, 2026, in Bolinao, Pangasinan.

Spearheaded by the MDRRM Council Chairperson, Hon. Jesus F. Celeste, Municipal Mayor, and led by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer, Engr. Cherish Calicdan, the meeting was formally called to order by the SB Committee Chairperson on DRRM, Hon. Alfredo “Freddie” Dela Cruz, Municipal Councilor.

The meeting served as a venue to discuss the accomplishments and recent activities of the Council, as well as reports and updates from the different sections of the MDRRMO.

Updates were likewise presented by the Municipal Health Office, Municipal Agriculture Office, and Bolinao Waterworks System regarding the observed impacts of the El Niño phenomenon and the corresponding preparedness measures and actions being undertaken.

The Council also deliberated on other matters concerning disaster risk reduction and management, emergency preparedness, response coordination, and inter-agency collaboration.

Through continued collaboration, coordination, and proactive planning, the Bolinao DRRMC remains committed to strengthening local disaster risk governance, enhancing preparedness, and building a safer, more resilient, and disaster-ready Bolinao.

Watch for:

🔸 Cracks in buildings
🔸 Unusual rumbling or cracking sounds

If you notice these signs, move to a safer area and follow official advisories.
