“Bontoc MPS Facilitates Surrender of Firearm with Expired Registration”
BONTOC, SOUTHERN LEYTE – On Thursday evening, October 24, 2024, Bontoc Municipal Police Station under the leadership of PLT ULYSSES T MESA, Officer-in-Charge, successfully facilitated the surrender of another firearm during the conduct of Re-visitation Revitalized Oplan Katok operation in Brgy. Beniton, Bontoc, Southern Leyte.
A law-abiding citizen of the said barangay turned-over his firearm described as a 9mm FEG pistol with no magazine and no ammunition, due to expired firearm registration and License To Own and Possess Fi****ms (LTOPF).
The surrender of the said firearm was a direct result of the continuous efforts and information dissemination by Bontoc MPS regarding expired fi****ms within the area of responsibility (AOR). Such proactive approach ensures that all fi****ms are properly registered and that community safety is maintained.
“As a law-abiding citizen, one should temporarily surrender and deposit expired firearm while processing the necessary legal documents to avoid any legal repercussions. Such efforts would positively impact reducing the number of unregulated fi****ms in circulation and prevent potential accidents or misuse,” said PLT Mesa.
He also stated, “Citizens are encouraged to do the same—take this opportunity to contribute to a safer community by responsibly disposing of any fi****ms that are no longer in compliance with current regulations.”
Meanwhile, the said firearm is currently in custody of Bontoc MPS for safekeeping.
