ICYMI: Borongan City has taken another significant step toward strengthening its tsunami preparedness through the installation of tsunami evacuation directional signages on August 2, 2026.
In partnership with the Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS), the Borongan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) successfully installed six (6) tsunami evacuation signages across four (4) barangays in the city. The installed signages include Lugar na Mapanganib sa Tsunami, Daan Patungo sa Ligtas na Lugar, and Lugar na Naitalagang Evacuation Site. These serve as essential visual guides to help residents and visitors quickly identify hazard zones, evacuation routes, and designated safe areas during tsunami emergencies.

As part of this initiative, tsunami evacuation maps were also distributed to Barangays Poblacion A, Poblacion B, and Songco. These community-based evacuation maps were developed by the respective barangay representatives during the Tsunami Evacuation Planning Workshop held in Borongan City on July 30, 2026, ensuring that local knowledge and community participation were integrated into the planning process.

The installation of these signages and the distribution of evacuation maps reflect Borongan City's continuing commitment to building a safer, more informed, and disaster-resilient community. By providing clear evacuation guidance and strengthening public awareness, these initiatives enhance our collective capacity to respond effectively and safely in the event of a tsunami.

The Borongan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office extends its sincere appreciation to DOST-PHIVOLCS for its invaluable technical assistance, unwavering support, and commitment to enhancing tsunami preparedness in our city. We are especially grateful to the team led by Sir Angel Lanuza for sharing their expertise and guiding our local stakeholders throughout the Tsunami Evacuation Planning Workshop and the installation of tsunami evacuation maps and directional signages.

Together, through strong collaboration and proactive disaster risk reduction efforts, we continue to build a โ€”a city that is prepared, resilient, and ready to protect its people.
