๐ต๐๐๐๐๐๐ถ๐ ๐๐พ๐๐, ๐ธ๐ถ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) trained six workersโ associations in Eastern Samar on artificial intelligence applications, leadership development, basic labor rights, and financial transparency during its Workersโ Organization Development Program (WODP) conducted on November 20, 2025 at Surf and Turf Bar and Grill in Borongan City.
The activity โ designed to strengthen organizational capabilities of grassroots workersโ groups โ placed strong emphasis on practical digital tools and emerging technologies that can help associations modernize their systems and improve productivity. A key highlight of the training was the AI Orientation delivered by Senior Labor and Employment Officer Neil D. Moraleta, who demonstrated how artificial intelligence can assist small associations in records management, correspondence drafting, communication workflow, and project proposal preparation. Participants were shown accessible, low-cost AI tools and real-life examples showing how informal-sector organizations can use digital assistance to produce better documents, improve timeliness, and reduce administrative workload. Moraleta stressed that โtechnology is no longer optional โ even small associations benefit greatly when they embrace simple, practical digital tools.โ
Earlier in the day, LEO III-ALI Jowie M. Colibao led a comprehensive session on Basic Labor Laws and Workersโ Rights, reinforcing protections relevant to farmers, tricycle drivers, eco-tourism workers, and other informal-sector groups. Colibao followed this with a leadership module using the inspirational video โWisdom of the Geese,โ which illustrated teamwork, shared responsibility, and strong organizational communication. To complement leadership skills, financial integrity and accountability were emphasized through a workshop on Financial Management and Transparency facilitated by GIP Khrestine B. Elejido and Aiken Mae Tangara. Participants practiced simple bookkeeping, monitoring of association funds, and transparency measures aimed at strengthening internal trust. The training gathered officers and representatives from the San Gabriel Eco-Tourism Association, Sinirangan Agriculture Cooperative, Borongan City Alliance of Tricycle Drivers-Operators Association, Inc., Polangi Farmers Association, Vigan Integrated Farmers Association, and Bolusao Coconut-Based Integrated Farmers Association. The program opened with the National Anthem, an invocation, and welcome remarks from OIC Provincial Head Salvacion A. Yepez. Morning snacks and learning kits โ notebooks, pens, and handouts โ were provided to participants.
Ending at 5:00 p.m. with the awarding of certificates, the WODP training reinforced DOLEโs mandate to empower workersโ associations through skills development, legal literacy, and administrative strengthening. Participants expressed appreciation for the AI component and the practical sessions that directly addressed their day-to-day organizational needs. The WODP continues to serve as DOLEโs cornerstone program for enabling workersโ organizations to function more effectively, make sound decisions, and confidently lead their members in the changing world of work.
