DILG Region XI, led by Regional Director Abdullah V. Matalam, successfully leveled up local disaster preparedness during the Reorientation on Operation Listo Protocols on May 21, 2026, at the Apo View Hotel, Davao City. The activity aimed to make sure local communities are safer, faster, and better prepared before, during, and after disasters.

The main highlight was a hands-on workshop on using the Enhanced Disaster Online Reporting System (E-DORMS). Through this digital tool, DILG officers learned how to send faster, real-time disaster reports straight from the ground. This ensures that local leaders get accurate, life-saving information immediately when a crisis hits.

The Utilization Conference on the Calendar Year (CY) 2025 Local Government Unit (LGU) Profiling took center stage on May 20, 2026, serving as a critical platform for data-driven local governance. Held at the Apo View Hotel in Davao City, the activity gathered dedicated DILG Officers from across the region, including LGOO VI Reymel Valera, to strategically assess and evaluate local governance data. The conference focused heavily on collaborating on evidence-based approaches to effectively support and strengthen local government units.

The main focus of the conference was a comprehensive analysis of the regionwide LGU profile, specifically mapping out existing gaps and identifying critical priority programs for future implementation. By examining these baselines, DILG Officers collaborated on shaping the exact capacity development interventions required to empower local governments. This strategic profiling ensures that future policy adjustments, resource allocations, and training programs are precisely tailored to meet the evolving needs of communities across the region.

On May 5-6, 2026, the Ritz Hotel in Davao City became the hub for enhancing local accountability during the Training Workshop of Local Sanggunians as Quasi-Judicial Bodies in Conducting Administrative Investigations. The intensive two-day workshop focused on sharpening the skills required to handle administrative cases with precision, fairness, and strict legal integrity.

The event saw a strong turnout of dedicated leaders and enablers, including Local Sanggunian Members, Secretaries to the Sanggunian, Vice Mayors, and DILG Officers from across the region—including LGOO VI Reymel Valera, who participated alongside fellow DILG colleagues. Proving that distance is no barrier to commitment, Vice Mayor John Paul Lampig joined virtually via Zoom, actively engaging in the sessions and workshops from start to finish.

By equipping our local legislative councils with the knowledge to function effectively as quasi-judicial bodies, we continue to pave the way for a more transparent, just, and accountable local leaders.

May 4-5, 2026 – To strengthen grassroots governance and transparency, DILG-XI successfully conducted its Continuing Legal Education for Local Government Operations Officers at the Ritz Hotel. Led by Regional Legal Service Unit Chief Atty. Dolly Jane J. Ranises, the intensive two-day seminar equipped field officers—including LGOO VI Reymel Valera—with critical legal updates and strict regulatory guidelines essential for guiding their respective Local Government Units.

The training focused on two pivotal areas: an exhaustive breakdown of guidelines for the upcoming Barangay and SK Elections delivered by COMELEC-XI Assistant Regional Director Atty. Gay A. Enumerables, and an impactful anti-corruption lecture series led by Office of the Ombudsman GIPO III Atty. Janice Joanne T. Arenas. Armed with these latest frameworks on election readiness and public accountability, DILG-XI officers are fully prepared to enforce clean, orderly, and legally sound transitions across the region.

Today, the Municipal Tourism Office headed by Mr. Gillan Bryan P. Buenaflor and the Municipal Agriculture Office headed by Mr. Roseller T. Fanilag conducted a meeting with MLGOO Reymel Valera in preparation to the 2026 Maganahay na Barangay Awards.

The event as one of the highlight activities of the 57th Araw ng Boston and 24th Pabulig Festival will showcase the best practices and performance of Barangays in sustaining grassroot developments.
