60-Day Price Freeze on Basic Necessities

A 60-day price freeze on basic necessities is in effect in the province of Antique following the declaration of a state of calamity (SOC) due to the severe effects of the El Niño phenomenon.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Antique imposed the Automatic Price Control (APC) on April 18, subsequent to the approval of Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Resolution No. 351-2024, which places Antique in an SOC. Unless sooner lifted by the President, the price control on basic necessities will end on June 17, after a period of 60 days, in accordance with Republic Act (RA) 7581 or the Price Act of the Philippines.

Basic necessities under the jurisdiction of DTI include canned sardines, processed milk, coffee, detergent or laundry soap, candles, salt, bread, bottled water, and instant noodles.

Daily monitoring of prices in grocery stores and supermarkets has been conducted since the declaration to ensure compliance by retailers with the APC and to protect the welfare of consumers.

The imposed APC is based on the monitored prevailing prices of these commodities prior to the declaration of the state of calamity.

Empowering Excellence: 15 Negosyo Center (NC) Business Counselors of DTI Antique attended the Negosyo Ko, IPRO-Protect Ko!, a capacity building for DTI Region VI NC Business Counselors at Muelle Deli Restaurant, Iloilo City.

During the activity, the Philippine IP System and IPOPHL's programs, services, and new initiatives were discussed, and a workshop on trademark applications was conducted. The BCs were also given a chance to present potential applicants logos for the IPO for critiquing.
