Strengthening support for Filipinos across borders, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga convened a coordination meeting with key partner agencies, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW)โon March 19, 2026, at Watergate Hotel, Butuan City. The activity served as a platform to harmonize initiatives and expand opportunities for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families through science, technology, and innovation.
Anchored on the Innovation for Filipinos Working Distantly from the Philippines (iFWD PH) Program, the meeting highlighted the value of inter-agency collaboration in delivering responsive and inclusive interventions. Discussions focused on the programโs 2025 accomplishments, updates on its extension until June 2027, alignment of strategies for 2026 implementation, and reaffirmation of commitments. Action plans were also identified to ensure effective and coordinated program ex*****on moving forward.
The meeting was facilitated by DOST Caraga Assistant Regional Director for Field Operations Division, Mr. Ricardo N. Varela. As the lead agency, DOST Caraga continues to bridge innovation with real-world applications, empowering OFWs through technology-driven livelihood opportunities, capacity building, and access to science-based solutions. This initiative reinforces a shared commitment to transforming overseas work gains into sustainable, innovation-driven opportunities for Filipino families and communities.
