As digital technologies continue to transform the manufacturing sector, DOST Caraga, in partnership with the Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC), conducted the 3D Modeling and Simulation for Product Development Training on July 21โ23, 2026, at the DOST Caraga Regional Office Innovation Hub.
The three-day training equipped participants with practical skills in digital product development, enabling them to create accurate three-dimensional models, assemble product components, perform basic engineering simulations, evaluate product performance, and analyze simulation results to improve product designs before fabrication.
The activity was facilitated by DOST-MIRDC experts Engr. Arn James Vengua and Engr. Antonio Sy III, who guided participants through hands-on sessions demonstrating how digital design and simulation can reduce production costs, minimize design errors, and accelerate product development.
DOST Caraga Regional Director Engr. Noel M. Ajoc welcomed the participants and underscored the importance of equipping local innovators and manufacturers with advanced technologies that enhance productivity, improve product quality, and strengthen the region's manufacturing capabilities.
Building on previous capacity-building initiatives in technical drawing, materials selection, and materials testing, the training introduced participants to digital manufacturing tools that are increasingly essential in today's Industry 4.0 landscape. Through 3D modeling and simulation, participants gained the ability to transform traditional technical drawings into digital product designs that can be tested and refined before actual production, helping save time, resources, and materials.
The training directly supports the development of locally fabricated technologies, including the Riding Type Floating Tiller (Tortol) of Cambal Metallurgy Manufacturing, the Adlai Milling Machine and Soybean Thresher of Sanico Fabricator and Machineries, and Rice Carts developed by Guerta Enterprises and Machineshop.
Participants included grassroots innovators and fabricators from Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur, representatives from Caraga State University, North Eastern Mindanao University, Surigao del Norte State University, Agusan del Sur State University, and DOST Caraga personnel.
By strengthening the digital design capabilities of local fabricators, DOST Caraga continues to empower innovators to develop more efficient, reliable, and competitive technologies that address the needs of communities, support local industries, and contribute to the region's sustainable economic growth through science, technology, and innovation.
