The Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga conducted a series of congressional visits on September 1-2, 2026 to engage with the regionโ€™s legislators and strengthen support for the continued development of tourism in Caraga.

Building on the collaborative engagements with Caragaโ€™s district representatives in 2025, the visits provided an avenue to discuss the regionโ€™s tourism priorities, development directions, project initiatives, convergence programs, and emerging needs, while highlighting the vital role of legislative support in turning these priorities into meaningful programs and investments.

As Caraga continues to position itself as a competitive and sustainable tourism destination, strengthening partnerships with our lawmakers remains essential in advancing initiatives that support tourism infrastructure, destination development, connectivity, community-based tourism, livelihood opportunities, and the promotion of the regionโ€™s diverse tourism assets.

The meeting likewise presents an important opportunity to further align national resources and legislative support with Caragaโ€™s distinct tourism assets.

Through continued collaboration and convergence, DOT Caraga remains committed to working with our legislators and partners in unlocking the regionโ€™s full tourism potential and making tourism a stronger catalyst for economic growth, employment, and community development.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga brought the soul of Caraga to the product presentation at the 37th Philippine Travel Mart (PTM), putting the spotlight on the people behind the regionโ€™s tourism destinations and experiences.

Representing Caraga were tour operators ๐‰๐ฎ๐š๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐ˆ๐€๐Ž ๐“๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐’๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐ข๐œ๐ž๐ฌs of Siargao and ๐˜๐š๐œ๐จ ๐“๐ซ๐š๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐“๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ of Dinagat Islands, alongside tourism representatives from ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ๐š๐ง ๐‚๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ, ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ฅ๐ข๐  ๐‚๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ, ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐š๐ฐ๐š๐ง, ๐„๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ณ๐š, ๐’๐š๐ง ๐ˆ๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ซ๐จ, ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐š๐ซ, ๐ƒ๐ข๐ง๐š๐ ๐š๐ญ ๐ˆ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐๐ฌ, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐‹๐จ๐ซ๐ž๐ญ๐จ.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga Region made a splash as numerous expo participants visited its booth during the 37th Philippine Travel Mart (PTM), experiencing firsthand the regionโ€™s vibrant tourism offerings.

Fun games and quizzes added excitement to the booth, with participants taking home keychains, fridge magnets, and other souvenirs that serve as reminders of their Caraga experience.

Notable public officials also participated including Mayor Kirk Asis of Bayugan City, Former Municipal Mayor Lillian Yu-Lozada of Cagwait, Mayor Jeasa Gonzales of Pilar, and Vice Mayor Conrad Cejoco of Bislig among other guests and tourism stakeholders.

Mr. Glenn A. Parcia and Mr. Albert M. Puno from the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department, representing Butuan City, joined the opening of the 37th Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) 2026 on August 4, 2026, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

During the event, Mr. Parcia and Mr. Puno proudly shared the history of Butuan through quick talks with walk-in guests and showcased its diverse tourism products and offerings by providing brochures and QR cards packed with information about Butuan. Guests also enjoyed trivia games about Butuan, with exciting prizes and souvenirs given to those who answered correctly.

In the afternoon, Butuan City got a chance to share, through a presentation, what the city has to offer, including the ancient Balangay (Butuan Boat), the Agusan River and its river cruises, the natural beauty of the majestic Mt. Mayapay, and heritage sites such as Bลซd Eco Park and the Banza Church Ruins.

The presentation also shared local flavors, featuring beloved Butuan delicacies such as Buntฤ, Palagsing, Pao with Latik, and many more. Local products such as Laksoy and beaded accessories were also highlighted during the per-region presentation.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga Region brought more than its โ€œCaraga Beyond its Wavesโ€ identity to the 37th Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) at SMX Convention Center Manila, featuring two local tour operators from Dinagat Islands and Siargao Island, alongside LGU representatives from Butuan City, Bunawan, Esperanza, Bislig City, San Isidro, Provincial Tourism Office of Dinagat Islands, Pilar, and Loreto.

The participation showcased Caragaโ€™s diverse destinations, cultural experiences, natural attractions, and adventure offerings while providing local tourism stakeholders an opportunity to promote their products and strengthen their presence in the domestic tourism market.

The event opening was graced by Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay, Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Nograles, and other DOT officials.

Secretary Mathay also personally visited the DOT Caraga booth and met with Regional Director Ivonnie B. Dumadag and all of delegates from Caraga.

Through the 37th PTM, DOT Caraga continues to strengthen partnerships and create opportunities for its local tourism stakeholders, proving that Caraga is more than just waves, it is a region rich in culture, adventure, nature, and experiences waiting to be discovered.
