The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Butuan City, headed by City Director Annabel F. Yangson, joined the Elderly Filipino Week Celebration 2026, Consumer Welfare Month Kick-Off, and Local Government Month Celebration held today at the Butuan City Hall Grounds.
While each celebration highlights a different sector, they all share one important message: the welfare of our people must always be at the heart of local governance.
This is reflected in Section 16 of the Local Government Code, or the General Welfare Clause, which reminds local governments of their responsibility to promote the general welfare of their communities.
In her message, City Director Annabel F. Yangson emphasized that the three-in-one celebration reflects the very essence of the General Welfare Clause. She underscored that whether the focus is on our senior citizens, consumers, or local government workforce, the goal remains the same, to ensure that government programs and services respond to the needs of the people.
For DILG Butuan City, this means continuing to work with the City Government, national government agencies, civil society organizations, and other partners to make governance more responsive, inclusive, and people-centered.
As Director Yangson shared, “At the end of the day, governance is about people. Our programs, our services, and our partnerships should always translate into something meaningful for our communities.”
This commitment continues through the series of DILG activities lined up this October, including the Serbisyo Caravan in Barangay De Oro on October 6, the MOA Signing and Official Launch of the CSO Academy on October 10, and the BNEO for GREAT Barangays – Component D: Looking Forward to Better Governance: Citizenship Building, which promotes participatory governance and supports barangays in advancing their development priorities, including their Barangay Development Plans (BDPs).
