Palagsing, a soft, chewy, and delicious delicacy that originated in Butuan City, is made from unaw or lumbiya starch, harvested from the lumbiya palm (Metroxylon sagu Rottb.), combined with fresh young coconut meat and brown sugar. The mixture is carefully wrapped in banana leaves and boiled, creating a flavorful treat that showcases the richness of local ingredients and traditional knowledge.
Beyond its delicious taste, Palagsing represents an opportunity for local entrepreneurship and industry development. Through product improvement, quality enhancement, innovative packaging, product diversification, and expanded market access, local producers can transform this traditional delicacy into a more competitive product for a wider market.
Through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), MSMEs and local entrepreneurs are encouraged to explore opportunities in product development, branding, packaging, market linkage, and business development to further promote and strengthen proudly local products like Palagsing.
Let us continue to support, promote, and celebrate our local productsโbecause every traditional delicacy tells a story of culture, community, and economic potential.
