August 19, 2026 | BUTUAN CITY — A proposed new Operating Room Theater for the 𝗕𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 (𝗕𝗠𝗖) was discussed during a consultative hearing conducted by the 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, chaired by 𝗛𝗼𝗻. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗧. 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗰𝗲𝗱𝗼, on August 19, 2026, at the Office of OCCM-Salcedo.

The consultation brought together representatives from the 𝗕𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, and 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 to discuss the proposed facility and determine what will be needed to make the project possible.

The proposed Operating Room Theater is seen as an important step toward improving the hospital’s facilities and strengthening the services available to patients. With a dedicated and improved operating facility, BMC may be better equipped to accommodate surgical procedures and respond to the healthcare needs of Butuanons.

During the hearing, the concerned offices discussed the hospital’s requirements, the technical aspects of the proposed construction, and the budgetary considerations that need to be addressed. These discussions are intended to ensure that the proposed facility is properly planned and aligned with the actual needs of the hospital and the people it serves.

For the Committee on Health and Sanitation, consultations such as this provide an opportunity to bring the concerns and needs of the healthcare sector to the attention of the Sangguniang Panlungsod and the concerned offices of the City Government.

The proposed project remains subject to the necessary evaluation, planning, and budgetary processes. Through continued coordination among the concerned offices, the City Government aims to pursue improvements in healthcare facilities that can translate into better and more accessible medical services for every Butuanon.

The Junior City Officials got a firsthand look at the legislative process today as they attended the 33rd Regular Session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Butuan.

As part of the Junior City Officials Program in celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan 2026, the young participants observed how matters are brought before the City Council, discussed, and deliberated as part of the legislative process.

The experience gave the young leaders a better understanding of how local legislation works and how the Sangguniang Panlungsod addresses matters that affect the city and its people.
