DSWD Caraga strengthens partnership with Brokenshire Medical Center to expand access to services for Caraganons

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga strengthened its partnership with Brokenshire Medical Center to expand access to medical and social protection services for qualified clients in the region.

The Field Office welcomed the courtesy visit of Brokenshire Medical Center, led by its Business Development and Sales Head, Mr. Cam T. Albania, on September 2, 2026. The visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to discuss ways to further strengthen their partnership and make needed services more accessible to Caraganons.

The partnership was further formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DSWD Caraga and Brokenshire Medical Center, providing qualified DSWD clients an avenue to access medical services and assistance beyond the Caraga Region. The collaboration also strengthens coordination in responding to clients who may require medical services outside the region.

Regional Director Mari-Flor A. Dollaga welcomed the partnership, highlighting the importance of expanding the Field Office’s network of service providers to respond to the varied needs of DSWD clients.

Through partnerships such as this, the DSWD Field Office Caraga continues to strengthen access to responsive social protection services, helping ensure that geographical boundaries do not hinder clients from receiving the assistance they need.

Keeping Children Safe Starts with the Community.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, as the chair of the Regional Juvenile Justice and Welfare Committee (RJJWC) Caraga, together with the Local Government Unit of General Luna, Surigao del Norte, through its Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, are working together to strengthen community-based interventions for children and youth.

From September 2–4, 2026, representatives from 19 barangays of General Luna, including barangay officials and secretaries, MSWDO personnel, and partners, are gathering at the St. Thomas Pastoral Center for the crafting of the Comprehensive Local Juvenile Intervention Program (CLJIP).

The activity aims to help the municipality and its barangays better understand the situation of children and youth in their communities and identify appropriate interventions to be implemented over the next three to five years.

The sessions began with a discussion on the Comprehensive National Juvenile Intervention Program (CNJIP) Framework and workshop objectives led by Mr. Dante S. Rosales, Team Leader of the RJJWC Secretariat, followed by a situational analysis and data-gathering workshop facilitated by Ms. Vera Jean C. Angob, where participants worked on their respective barangay profiles.

Through this collaborative planning process, communities are given a stronger role in identifying risks, understanding the needs of children and youth, and developing preventive and responsive interventions that can help promote their well-being and prevent them from entering situations that may place them at risk.

A safer future for children begins with communities that understand their needs, act early, and work together to protect them.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) provides children in conflict with the law with the care, guidance, and interventions they need to develop their skills and values, take responsibility for their actions, and prepare for their return to their families and communities.

Through psychosocial interventions, education, health services, life skills and vocational training, and socio-cultural, recreational, spiritual, and community activities, RRCY helps children build the capacity and support systems they need to move toward a more positive, responsible, and productive future.

The journey does not end within the walls of the Center. Rehabilitation aims to prepare every child for reintegration, equipped with better choices, stronger relationships, and renewed opportunities to contribute to their families and communities.

DSWD Caraga starts delivery and inspection of SFP Batang Nutri-Care Alternative Meals supplies

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, through its Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) Batang Nutri-Care, has started the delivery and inspection of Alternative Meals supplies to various municipalities across the region.

The Alternative Meals are intended to serve as a supplemental food provision for eligible children enrolled in Child Development Centers (CDCs) and Supervised Neighborhood Play (SNP), and will be provided once the allocated hot meal supplies have been fully consumed. This measure ensures the continuous provision of nutritious meals throughout the implementation of the feeding program.

DSWD Field Office Caraga staff, in coordination with concerned LGUs, conducted inventory and inspection activities upon delivery of the Alternative Meals supplies. The activity involved checking the quantity and condition of the delivered supplies to ensure readiness for distribution to the Child Development workers.

The SFP Batang Nutri-Care targets 73 Local Government Units (LGUs) and aims to serve 72,881 children throughout the region. The feeding activity will be implemented for 180 feeding days, with a total budget allocation of Php 327,964,500.00, equivalent to Php 25.00 per child per day.

The provision of Alternative Meals is part of the program’s efforts to ensure the continuity of supplementary feeding and help address the nutritional needs of children. Through the combined provision of hot meals and Alternative Meals, the SFP Batang Nutri-Care aims to support the healthy growth and development of young learners while promoting their participation in early childhood programs.

DSWD Caraga remains committed to working closely with LGUs and other stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery, proper management, and efficient utilization of food supplies, ultimately contributing to improved nutrition and well-being among children across the region.

Partner beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga in Barangay Mandus, Lingig, Surigao del Sur, held one of their many harvests under Project LAWA at BINHI on September 1, 2026.

Their communal garden yielded a bountiful variety of vegetables, including corn (mais), eggplant (talong), malabar spinach (alugbati), okra (lady’s finger), bitter gourd (ampalaya), and string beans (batong), all of which were sold in the local market.

For partner beneficiary Michael A. Villarta, the project has brought a kind of happiness that goes beyond the value of money.

“Di gyud kabayran og salapi ang kalipay namo dili lang karon kundi sa umalabot ug ang kalipay namo nga niabot ni nga project (The happiness we have is priceless, not only for today, but for what lies ahead. And the happiness this project has brought us.)”

This bountiful harvest would not have been possible without the collaboration of the Local Government Unit of Lingig, partner government agencies, and, most importantly, the dedication of the partner beneficiaries of Barangay Mandus, who continue to nurture what has been entrusted to them and turn it into something that benefits their families and community.

DSWD Caraga Strengthens Partnerships for Tara, Basa! Program

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, through the Tara, Basa! Program, strengthened its partnership with local education stakeholders through a virtual orientation held on August 27, 2026.

The orientation brought together representatives from the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Remedios T. Romualdez (RTR) and Tubay, as well as the Department of Education–Magallanes District, to discuss the program’s objectives, interventions, and key components.

Discussions highlighted the program’s support for child beneficiaries, college students, youth development, and parents, particularly in strengthening their role in supporting children’s learning.

The session also provided a venue for information sharing, clarification of concerns, and discussion of possible areas of collaboration for the program’s implementation.

Through continued engagement with LGUs and education partners, DSWD Caraga Tara, Basa! Program works to strengthen literacy, support youth development, and encourage greater family participation in education.

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 675, series of 2004, the month of September is declared National Peace Consciousness Month to instill greater awareness and understanding of peace among the Filipino people. This annual celebration aims to strengthen institutional support for nationwide peacebuilding efforts.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga joins this year’s celebration with the theme “Kapayapaan Pagtibayin, Kaunlaran Paigtingin” coined by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU).

This theme directly aligns with the Department's commitment to social protection, rehabilitation, and reintegration programs that support the government's comprehensive peace agenda.
