ECC mobilizes immediate assistance for workers affected by Mindanao quake
The Employeesโ Compensation Commission (ECC) has assured the immediate provision of assistance and Employeesโ Compensation (EC) benefits to workers and their families affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao on June 8.
In line with the governmentโs commitment to protect workers during times of crisis, the ECC is closely coordinating with concerned agencies to identify and assist workers who sustained injuries or lost their lives as a result of the earthquake while performing their duties or in circumstances covered under the EC Program.
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary and ECC Governing Board Chairperson Francis Tolentino has directed the ECC to facilitate the prompt processing of EC benefits for qualified workers and beneficiaries.
Following this directive, ECC Executive Director Kaima Velasquez immediately activated the ECC Quick Response Team to coordinate with DOLE Regional Offices and other relevant agencies to gather information and validate affected workers.
Workers who sustained work-related injuries due to the earthquake may qualify for EC sickness or disability benefits, rehabilitation assistance, and reimbursement of medical expenses, subject to existing rules and regulations.
Meanwhile, the families of workers who lost their lives may be entitled to EC death benefits, including a monthly death pension for qualified beneficiaries, funeral benefits amounting to P30,000, and ECC cash assistance amounting to P15,000.
The ECC also encourages employers, workers, and their families to immediately report work-related injuries, disabilities, or deaths arising from the earthquake to facilitate the processing of claims and the provision of assistance.
The EC Program is a government social protection program that provides compensation and related benefits to workers and their dependents in cases of work-related sickness, injury, disability, or death.
