In the municipality of Remedios T. Romualdez (RTR), Agusan del Norte, a small junk shop has become a shining example of how determination, entrepreneurship, and government support can create meaningful opportunities. Behind the success of GFA Junk Shop is its proprietor, Mr. Genaro Alburo Luzon Jr., whose vision went beyond earning a livelihood—he wanted to contribute to a cleaner community while building a better future for his family.
Established in 2025, GFA Junk Shop began with limited capital but a clear purpose. Recognizing the growing need for proper waste segregation and recycling in the municipality, Mr. Luzon ventured into the scrap materials business. Through the collection, segregation, and trading of recyclable materials, he found a way to generate income while helping reduce waste and promote environmental responsibility within the community. Although the business started small, his dedication and perseverance allowed him to steadily gain the trust of customers and suppliers.
Understanding the importance of formalizing his enterprise, Mr. Luzon sought assistance from Negosyo Center RTR. Through its Business Registration and Business Advisory Services, he successfully secured his Business Name Registration, Mayor’s Permit, BIR Registration, and Barangay Micro Business Enterprise (BMBE) Registration in 2025. These interventions not only strengthened the legitimacy and credibility of his business but also equipped him with the knowledge and confidence needed to manage and grow his enterprise more effectively.
Like many aspiring entrepreneurs, one of Mr. Luzon’s greatest challenges was limited capital. The lack of sufficient funds restricted his ability to purchase larger volumes of recyclable materials and expand his operations. Determined to overcome this hurdle, he sought further assistance from Negosyo Center RTR. Through its referral and financing facilitation services, he successfully accessed financial support from the Small Business Corporation (SB Corp.) through the Rise Up Multi-Purpose Loan Program in 2025. The loan provided much-needed working capital, enabling him to increase inventory, improve operations, and serve a wider customer base. Because of his responsible financial management and excellent repayment record, he qualified for another SB Corp. loan in June 2026, further strengthening the growth and sustainability of the business.
The positive impact of these interventions soon became evident. As GFA Junk Shop expanded its operations and increased its customer base, the business generated greater income and created new opportunities for the family. The success of the enterprise even inspired Mr. Luzon to establish a second venture, ANGEL SARI-SARI STORE, providing an additional source of livelihood and further improving their economic stability.
Today, GFA Junk Shop continues to play an important role in supporting the municipality’s waste management and recycling efforts while serving as a source of income for local residents engaged in collecting recyclable materials. More importantly, its journey demonstrates how microenterprises can thrive when coupled with hard work, determination, and access to the right support programs.
Mr. Luzon’s story serves as an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs, proving that success does not always begin with large investments. Sometimes, it starts with a simple idea, a willingness to work hard, and the courage to seize opportunities for growth. Through the assistance of Negosyo Center RTR and SB Corp., GFA Junk Shop transformed challenges into opportunities and continues to prove that even small beginnings can lead to lasting success.
“Success is built one step at a time. With perseverance, proper guidance, and the courage to grow, even the smallest enterprise can create a lasting impact.”
