August 28 - Feast day of St. Augustine Bishop and Doctor of the Church

Today we celebrate the Feast Day of St. Augustine Bishop and Doctor of the Church, a brilliant North African Bishop, philosopher, and one of the most important thoelogians in Christian history. He was born in Thagaste, baptized at age 33 by Saint Ambrose in Milan, and he ordained a priest and later served as the Bishop of Hippo in North Africa from 396 until his death in 430.

Let us Pray,

Renew in your Church, we pray, O Lord, that spirit with which you endowed your Bishop Saint Augustine that, filled with the same spirit, we may thirst for you, the sole fount of true wisdom, and seek you, the author of heavenly love. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Today, let us all honor the feast day of Saint Monica, the Mother of St. Augustine. She is the patron saint of mothers, married women, and widows. She was raised in a Christian home. She married a man named Patricius, who was a pagan and is said to have a violent temper and an immoral lifestyle. Her marriage and home life were difficult, but she was a woman of deep faith and prayer. Earlier in her life she had struggled with alcohol but she overcame those challenges. Once married, her husband opposed her Christian faith and prayer life, but Saint Monica did not give up she continued to pray and be more devoted to God and because of her faith her son became one of the well known Saints. She continued to inspire women up till this day to always have hope and faith.

Saint Monica endured a difficult life, but she persevered, overcame her difficulties, and devoted herself to a life of prayer and virtuous living. Her prayers and virtues first won over her husband and mother-in-law, then all three of her children.

Prayer: Saint Monica, though you had a difficult life, you continually turned your difficulties over to God. You prayed, grew in virtue, and had a profound impact on your whole family. Please pray for me, that I will never lose hope for those who have gone astray but will remain faithful in prayer for them, trusting in God’s divine mercy. Saint Monica, pray for me. Jesus, I trust in You.

Every August 25, we commemorate the feast of Saint Louis — King. He is the patron saint of the barbers, builders, soldiers, sculptors, parents, prisoners, and the sick. Born in Poissy, France, in 1214 and became the King of France at the age of 12 following the death of his father, Louis VIII.

As a devout Christian monarch, Louis IX integrated his Catholic faith deeply into his political rule. He is considered to be one of the most important medieval monarchs and an “ideal type of ruler.” Saint Louis life reminds us that the true leadership and greatness are rooted in humble service to God.

To honor Saint Louis — King, let us offer him a short prayer.

Saint Louis, you came to know Christ at a young age. Your faith-filled mother instilled in you a clear vision of your moral duty and responsibility before God. You responded to that gift by being a king after the Heart of Christ, seeking justice and peace for all. Please pray for me, that I will embrace my own duties in life with love and justice, never seeking my own selfish desires but only the desires in the Heart of Christ. Saint Louis, King of France, pray for me. Jesus, I trust in You.

August 24 | Feast of Saint Bartholomew, Apostle

Today, we celebrate the feast of Saint Bartholomew, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He is known for his sincere faith and devotion as he followed Christ and shared the Good News with others.

May Saint Bartholomew inspire us to remain faithful to God, trust in His plan, and share His love through our words and actions. May we have the courage to follow Jesus even when the path ahead is unclear or difficult.

To honor Saint Bartholomew, let us offer a short prayer.

Today, we honor the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrating Mary as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. Her life of humble obedience, unwavering faith, and wholehearted love for God reminds us that true greatness is found in serving Him and others.

As our Queen and Mother, may Mary lead us closer to her Son, Jesus Christ, and teach us to say “yes” to God with courage, trust, and love. May we continue to follow her example and allow her faith to inspire us in our daily lives.

Short Prayer:

Today, we joyfully celebrate the feast day of Saint Pius X, a faithful shepherd of the Church and a humble servant of God. His life was marked by deep love for Christ, devotion to the Holy Eucharist, and a sincere desire to bring people closer to God.

Saint Pius X reminded the faithful of the importance of knowing, loving, and living out their faith. Through his dedication to the Eucharist and his desire for the faithful to receive Holy Communion with devotion, he helped many rediscover the beauty of encountering Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

May his example inspire us to remain faithful in times of difficulty, to serve others with humility, and to place God at the center of our lives. May we, like Saint Pius X, strive for holiness, live with courage, and faithfully share the love of Christ with everyone we encounter.

PRAYER TO SAINT PIUS X

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the life and witness of Saint Pius X. Through his intercession, help us grow stronger in faith, deeper in love, and more faithful in our daily walk with You.

Teach us to love the Holy Eucharist with sincere hearts and to approach You with reverence, humility, and trust. Give us the courage to stand firm in our faith, the wisdom to follow Your truth, and the compassion to serve those around us.

May the example of Saint Pius X inspire us to seek holiness in our ordinary lives and to become instruments of Your love and peace. Guide our families, our communities, and our Church, and keep us always close to Your Sacred Heart.

Saint Pius X, faithful servant of God and devoted shepherd of the Church, pray for us and lead us closer to Christ. May we always strive to live our faith faithfully and to renew all things in Christ.

On August 20, we celebrate the feast of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, the "Honey-Sweet Doctor" of the Church. Known as the Doctor Mellifluus, he transformed the 12th century through profound humility, intense prayer, and unmatched eloquence. As a Cistercian abbot, he did not just reform monasteries, he revitalized the heart of Europe. He famously taught that the measure of loving God is to love Him without measure. His timeless words remind us that true strength is found in quiet contemplation and radical love. Let his example inspire you to seek spiritual renewal in your daily life.

A Short Prayer:Saint Bernard, guide my heart to seek God with your same burning zeal. Teach me to love Him without limits and to find peace in holy silence. Amen.

Today, we celebrate the feast of Saint John Eudes of France. Following his birth on 1601 his parents build a pilgrimage to the church of Notre-Dame de la Recouvarnce, to dedicate their son to God. The devotion of his parents paid as John developed a strong Catholic faith from a young age, He was ordained in the year 1625. Devotion was the heart of Father Eudes’ ministry, and his most memorable devotion are his devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Holy Heart of Mary.

As we honor this great saint, let us remember the things that he did and take after his devotion to the holy Trinity and to the heart of the blessed Virgin Mary.

Prayer: Saint John Eudes, God used you for a particular moment of renewal in the history of the Church, and you responded with generosity. You were especially drawn to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary and shared those discoveries with many. Please pray for me, that I will always turn to these glorious Hearts, be transformed by them, Jesus pray for me.
