Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!
Babaylans were leaders, spiritual guides, political figures, and fierce defenders of the community. In pre-colonial Philippines, 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫, 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲.
So, what does it mean to lead like the Babaylans today? It means speaking truth to power. It means protecting the marginalized. It means choosing courage over comfort. And even when it’s inconvenient, it means standing firm for gender equality and women’s rights.
𝓦𝓸𝓶𝓮𝓷 have fought different battles throughout time to attain rights, education, suffrage, and personhood, demonstrating a driven movement for equality, parity, and autonomy.
The PNU Visayas Campus Library and Resource Unit in collaboration with the Management Information System Unit and Quality Assurance Management Unit Staff join the nationwide campaign in celebration of the National Women’s Month. We believe that ““𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧, 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭.”
The Units recognize and celebrate the outstanding resilience, strength, and invaluable contribution of women in our society!
We commit to advocate the 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 as tools that help women grow, lead, and inspire others. Through knowledge, awareness, and continuous learning, women can make informed choices that nurture both body and mind.”
