| NATA DE COCO, originally from the Philippines 🇵🇭 to the world 🌎

Nata de coco is a chewy, translucent, jelly-like foodstuff that originated from the Philippines. It is most commonly sweetened as a healthy dessert, and can accompany many things including pickles, drinks, ice cream, puddings, and fruit mixes.

No, Nata de coco is not from Indonesia as claimed by some Indonesians. Nata de coco was invented in 1949 by Teódula Kalaw, a Filipino chemist working for the National Coconut Corporation (now the Philippine Coconut Authority).

It was originally conceived as an alternative to nata de piña, another gel-like Filipino dessert produced since the 18th century.

Ang PCA ay patuloy na maglilingkod, magbibigay suporta, at mag-aalalay sa inyo ng taos-pusong serbisyo. Sa pagtutulungan ng bawat isa—mula sa ating pamahalaan, mga pribadong sektor, at higit sa lahat, ang ating masisipag na magniniyog—tayo ay patuloy na aangat. The Federation of Coconut Farmers Organization in Misamis Oriental has been reactivated.

The Municipal Federation Presidents of Coconut Farmers Organizations/Cooperatives convened for a Federation Meeting on April 17, 2024, organized by the Philippine Coconut Authority-Misamis Oriental. Distinguished guests included Governor Peter M. Unabia, Provincial Board Member Rey Buhisan, Mayor Rico Taray of Talisayan, Mayor Jay Albert C. Puertas of Lagonglong, Dr. Benjamin S. Resma from the Provincial Agriculture Office, and Dr. Ma. Chyrelyn A. Pace, PCA Provincial Manager. They all showed their support for the coconut farmers. Governor Unabia engaged in a dialogue with the leaders of the coconut farmers. At the meeting's conclusion, a new set of officers was elected, with Mr. Diosen B. Ratunil assuming the role of Federation President. The Federation expressed gratitude to the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental and the Local Government of Talisayan for their hospitality in hosting the event.

Training on COCONUT Agro-TECHNOLOGIES:

The training focused on coconut farming techniques and technologies that are doable at the farm level. It involved sound coconut cultural management practices, such as nursery and farm establishment and management, Integrated pest and disease management and crop nutrition, with emphasis on the utilization of readily available farm wastes as source of organic fertlizer materials.
