DOST, in partnership with LGU Talakag, conducted a weaving workshop for 30 seasoned and aspiring members of the Damugu Weavers Association, a group of Higaonon artisans from Bukidnon.
Held on February 12-13, 2025, at the Barangay Covered Court in San Rafael, Talakag, the two-day workshop aimed to enhance the traditional weaving skills of Higaonon community members. It also encouraged them to join the Damugu Weavers Association, providing a platform to market their products and create sustainable livelihood opportunities. By the end of the activity, 20 participants signed up to be part of the association.
The event was spearheaded by Virgilio M. Fuertes, Chief Science Research Specialist, and was attended by Municipal Administrator Alberto Bigcas and Barangay Chairman Danito A. Salacob.

🔹 Director Lita Suerte from DOST Legislative and Liaison Office trained participants on Policy Brief and Resolution Writing.

This summit empowers regional offices to drive inclusive, grassroots innovations nationwide! ✨

𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗼 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿

Three grassroots innovators from Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, and Misamis Oriental, who are beneficiaries of 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗗) 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, participated in the business marketing webinar on July 5 via Zoom. PSTO LDN Science Research Specialist 1 Ms. Melody Anne Donio served as the resource speaker for the said webinar.

This initiative aimed to provide knowledge on marketing and enhance their product competitiveness and sustainability. The participants were from 𝗗𝗮𝗺𝘂𝗴𝘂 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗟𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘆 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

The GRIND Program offers opportunities to stimulate the country's overall growth through community-led solutions focused on sustainable development. The DOST is spearheading efforts to cultivate an innovation culture starting at the community level.

: DOST assists Damugu sudsud weavers in Talakag, Bukidnon

The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office X recently made strides in its mission to integrate Science and Technology (S&T) and promote grassroots innovations by supporting the Damugu Weavers Association through various interventions—including the provision of an industrial high-speed sewing machine, training on synthetic dyeing in collaboration with the DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI), and support in product promotions.
