June 9, 2026📍 BF1KD Session 3: “Mag-MMS Ka Araw-araw”
@ Calaanan Health Center

The 3rd session of the Barangay First 1,000 Days (BF1KD) program was successfully conducted with the topic “Mag-MMS Ka Araw-araw.” The session emphasized the importance of taking Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) daily to support a healthy pregnancy and ensure the proper growth and development of babies during the first 1,000 days of life.

Special thanks to our facilitator Jona Borja, co-facilitator Wenelyn Pagutayao, CNPC Aprel Fe Chavez Susaya & Midwife Geraldine Sabo for sharing valuable knowledge and guidance with the participants.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀

The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) play a crucial role in promoting health and nutrition at the grassroots level in the Philippines. Established under Presidential Decree No. 1569, the program ensures that every barangay has a trained community worker who monitors the nutritional status of children and other vulnerable groups, while also linking them to essential health and nutrition services.

Although BNS are considered volunteer workers, they are given various incentives in recognition of their valuable contributions from various hierarchical tiers of government. This include honoraria coming from their respective barangay, city/municipal LGU, and the province. Likewise, at the national level, one of the key forms of support provided by the National Nutrition Council is the travelling allowance alongside free-of-charge conduct of trainings and other capacity development activities and the granting of a 2nd grade Civil Service Eligibility to qualified BNSs.

📌 Barangay First 1,000 Days – Session 6

Today, we successfully conducted Session 6: “Itama ang Maling Akala” with our pregnant mothers and participants at Canitoan Health Center.

The session focused on correcting misconceptions and providing the right information about pregnancy, childcare, and maternal health to ensure the safety and well-being of both mother and baby.

Cagayan de Oro City — Five facilities in the city successfully secured their Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace (MBFW) certification following the monitoring conducted by the Department of Health Center for Health Development–Northern Mindanao on February 18 to 19, 2026.

DOH CHD-NM confirmed five (5) certified facilities last May 18, 2026, including Camaman-an Health Center, Nazareth Health Center, Mambuaya Health Center, Calaanan Health Center, and the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office. Their certifications are valid until March 19, 2028.

The monitoring activity assessed compliance with MBFW standards, particularly the provision of breastfeeding support mechanisms in workplaces and health facilities. There were still four (4) establishments advised completing supporting documents, particularly records of employee orientations, before certification processing could proceed.

The Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace initiative is part of the government’s continuing effort to promote and support breastfeeding by ensuring that nursing mothers are provided with safe spaces, adequate break time, and supportive workplace policies.

Youth Engagement and Empowerment - Barangay Canitoan Council headed by PB Lance Padla in partnership with Community Improvement Division (CID - AHD).

Peer Educators’s Training aims to empower adolescents to promote healthy behaviors, provide support, and help navigate and educate their peers to available information and services by equiping them with knowledge and skills.

New batch of Peer Educators will strengthen Barangay Canitoan Adolescent Friendly Health Facility to provide best quality services to the adolescents in the community. 😉💪
