"So once diagnosed with CKD, we usually advise our patients to undergo transplant, especially katong wala pay severe symptoms. The patient will undergo many other processes. The patient has to pass or qualify for the process requirements sa transplant. In NMMC, we have a scheduled transplant almost every month."

A single kidney can do far more than most people realize. When one kidney is removed or donated, the remaining kidney does not just “work harder” — it actually begins to change. Through a process called compensatory hypertrophy, the surviving kidney increases in size and boosts its filtering capacity so it can handle the body’s needs on its own.

This adaptation allows the body to keep removing waste, balancing fluids, and regulating essential minerals with surprising efficiency. In many cases, people who donate a kidney or are born with only one healthy kidney can still live normal, active, and healthy lives. Regular medical checkups and a healthy lifestyle are still important, but the body’s ability to adjust is truly extraordinary.

It is one of the clearest examples of how resilient and adaptable human anatomy can be. Even with just one kidney, the body is often able to maintain stability and function remarkably well for years.
