4ID joins nationwide commemoration of International Humanitarian Law month

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army led by Major General Marion T. Angcao joined the nationwide observance of the 77th International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month this August, during the flag-raising ceremony held at the 4ID Headquarters, Camp Evangelista, Brgy. Patag, Cagayan de Oro City on Monday, August 3, 2026.

Anchored on the theme "Pinalakas na Ugnayan at Pagkakaisa sa Pagsulong ng IHL," this year's IHL Month highlights the importance of promoting public awareness of IHL and reaffirming the AFP's commitment to integrating its principles into military operations.

Attended by officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian human resource of the Command, the ceremony reaffirmed the 4ID's commitment to uphold the principles of humanity, protect civilians, and promote respect for IHL.

As part of the observance, Diamond Troopers also collectively recited the AFP Soldier's Pledge of Reaffirmation of Commitment and Support for IHL, signifying their unwavering dedication to uphold and promote IHL in the performance of their duties.

Moreover, Major General Angcao also read the messages of the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the Commanding General of the Philippine Army.

In his message, the CSAFP General Antonio G. Nafarrete, said soldiers should desire to be a military that not only protects lives but uplifts humanity. "Promoting peace and protecting human dignity are not the responsibility of any single agency or organization, but it is the highest duty of those in uniform to protect human rights, respect human rights, and uphold the international rule of law," he added.

Meanwhile, the CGPA Lt. Gen. Donald M. Gumiran, emphasized in his message that the Philippine Army remains steadfast in its adherence to International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, and the Rule of Law. "These principles are deeply embedded in our doctrine, training, leadership development, planning, and operations. It guides our actions as we fulfill our constitutional mandate while ensuring the protection of civilians and respecting the rights and dignity of all persons affected by armed conflict," he added.
