The Pabasa sa Nutrisyon Training was successfully conducted in three batches from April 28 to 30, 2026 at Horizons Splash Resort in Baroy, Lanao del Norte, gathering key health and nutrition implementers from the municipality. Participants included Municipal Nutrition Committee Members, LGU-hired Human Resources for Health (HRH), Department of Health Human Resources for Health (DOH HRH) under the National Health Workforce Support System (NHWSS), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs). The activity aimed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and facilitation techniques necessary to effectively implement the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon in their respective communities.
The training was facilitated by resource persons who are Nutritionist-Dietitians from the Provincial Department of Health Office and the Provincial Health Office, who provided technical expertise and guided participants throughout the sessions.
The three-day training provided a comprehensive orientation on the proper conduct of the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon, ensuring that participants clearly understood their roles as facilitators. A detailed discussion of the programโs ten (10) sessions, organized into four key modules, was carried out. Module 1 focused on promoting a balanced diet through eating a variety of foods. Module 2 tackled Hidden Hunger and Protein-Energy Malnutrition, emphasizing the importance of addressing micronutrient deficiencies. Module 3 highlighted the significance of backyard gardening and animal raising as sustainable sources of nutritious food. Meanwhile, Module 4 covered practical aspects of planning, purchasing, selecting, and preparing nutritious meals for the family.
To enhance learning and engagement, the training incorporated interactive activities for each session using the Pabasa Play and Learn Kit. These hands-on exercises allowed participants to practice facilitating sessions in a participatory and learner-centered manner, better preparing them for actual implementation at the community level.
Feedback from participants highlighted that the training was highly interactive and the activities were enjoyable. Many expressed confidence that parents and caregivers in the community would also appreciate and actively participate in the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon sessions once implemented at the barangay level.
The activity concluded with a strong commitment from all participants to cascade the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon in their respective areas in the following month, ensuring a wider reach and greater impact in promoting proper nutrition practices among households across the municipality.
