It's Consumer Welfare Month! πŸ›οΈ πŸ›‘οΈ

As DTI continues its efforts to increase awareness of consumers on their rights and responsibilities, here are four ways to exercise consumer rights:

1. Know the 8 basic consumer rights: An informed consumer is a protected consumer. Knowing your rights gives you the confidence to question unfair practices and make wise purchasing decisions.

2. Secure proof of purchase: Always ask for and keep official receipts or sales invoices. It is essential for addressing concerns like false advertising or seeking redress (refund, repair, or replacement) for a defective product. Without proof of purchase, asserting your rights becomes much harder.

3. Know where to seek help in a store: Look for the Consumer Welfare Desk in business establishments. The DTI encourages businesses to set up CWDs as the first step for consumers to address simple complaints or discrepancies, like a price difference between the shelf and the counter, for a speedy resolution.

4. Use DTI's complaint channels: If a store or seller fails to provide a satisfactory remedy (like refund, repair, or replacement), know that you can escalate the matter. Contact or visit the nearest DTI Provincial/Regional Office or use their official channels to formally file a complaint.
