On the morning of March 17, 2026, authorities in Iligan City conducted an operation that uncovered a deeply disturbing reality hidden behind closed doors. What they found was not just a crime but a story of betrayal, in which the very person meant to protect became the one who caused harm.

A joint inter-agency team led by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) carried out the operation, bringing together key units from both national and local levels. The team was composed of the Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) Task Force Against Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), PNPโ€“Iligan City Police Station 4 (ICPS 4), PNPโ€“Iligan City Mobile Force Company (ICMFC), PNPโ€“ICPO Investigation and Detective Management Unit (IDMD), PNPโ€“Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division 10 (RIDMD 10), PNPโ€“Women and Children Protection Center Mobile Force Unit (WCPCโ€“MFU), and the PNPโ€“Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 10 (RACU 10).

Also part of the operation were the DOJโ€“Iligan City Prosecutorโ€™s Office, DOJโ€“Office of Cybercrime (OCC), and the DOJโ€“Regional Anti-Child Online Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking Task Force (RACETTF), alongside social welfare partners from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 10 (DSWD 10) and the Iligan City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD). International coordination was provided by the United Kingdom National Crime Agency (UKNCA), with support from the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC). Armed with a court-issued warrant, authorities searched the suspectโ€™s home and examined digital devices that would soon reveal painful evidence of abuse.

At the center of the case was a mother, known by multiple aliases, including "Ggee" and โ€œGerleen", and was allegedly been exploiting her own children online. Using different names to hide her identity, she operated in secret for years, sending explicit photos and videos of minors to individuals abroad.

The investigation itself had been ongoing since 2019, when suspicious online activity was first reported and flagged internationally. Over time, authorities from different countries worked together, piecing together fragments of information, until they finally located the source.

What made the discovery even more heartbreaking was the age of the victims. Rescued from the home were three children: a 10-month-old baby, a 2-year-old toddler, and a 12-year-old child. All of them had been subjected to exploitation at the hands of their own mother.

Inside the home, investigators found not only explicit materials but also records showing payments from foreign individuals, evidence of an ongoing system of abuse that had lasted for years.

The suspect was arrested and is now facing charges under the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children law. Meanwhile, the children were immediately brought to the care of social workers, where they are now receiving protection, medical attention, and psychological support to help them begin healing from their trauma.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to track down the foreign national linked to the case and are determined to ensure that everyone involved is held accountable.

โ€œThis case is a painful reminder of how vulnerable children can be, even in places where they should feel safest,โ€ said PAOCC Executive Director Undersecretary Benjamin C Acorda, Jr. โ€œWe remain committed to strengthening coordination among agencies and international partners to ensure that those behind these crimes are identified and brought to justice.โ€

Beyond the arrest, this operation tells a deeper story, one that highlights both the darkness of exploitation and the importance of vigilance, compassion, and action. It is also a reminder that even in the most painful situations, people are working tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

In the end, while justice has begun to take its course, the true priority remains the children, giving them a chance to recover, to feel safe again, and to rebuild the childhood that was taken from them.
