Cagwait MHO Strengthens BHW Skills Through PuroKalusugan Competency Training

CAGWAIT, SURIGAO DEL SUR - The Municipal Health Office (MHO) of Cagwait conducted a Competency Training for Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in PuroKalusugan Areas on September 17-18, 2026, at the Barangay La Purisima Gymnasium.

The two-day training was attended by 26 BHWs representing all 11 barangays of Cagwait, aimed at strengthening their knowledge, skills, and competencies in delivering essential community-based health services.

The activity was spearheaded by the Municipal Health Office through Municipal Health Officer Dr. Sherwin F. Mantilla, with Human Resources for Health (HRH) Nurses serving as facilitators.

Through lectures, discussions, and interactive learning activities, the participants enhanced their understanding of their roles as frontline health workers and community partners in promoting health, preventing diseases, monitoring community health concerns, and facilitating timely referrals.

The training highlighted the importance of continuous capacity-building for BHWs as the municipality strengthens the implementation of PuroKalusugan and works toward more accessible, responsive, and people-centered primary health care.

The MHO expressed its continuing commitment to empower BHWs, recognizing their vital role in bringing health services closer to every household and community in Cagwait.

📢 PUBLIC ADVISORY | SKELETAL WORKFORCE

Please be informed that on Friday, September 18, 2026, the Municipal Government of Cagwait will operate on a skeletal workforce arrangement as LGU employees participate in the Coastal Clean-Up Drive at Arangasa Island and Tree Planting Activity at Kilometer 5, Tubo-Tubo, Cagwait, Surigao del Sur.

Receiving of documents and transactions will remain available, but some processing and services may be limited during the activity.

Nutrition Program Monitoring and Field Visits Conducted in Three Barangays

CAGWAIT, SURIGAO DEL SUR - The Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) of Cagwait, chaired by Mayor Glenn G. Batiancila, REE, conducted Nutrition Program Monitoring and Field Visits in Barangay Bacolod on September 8, Barangay Tubo-tubo on September 9, and Barangay Aras-asan on September 10, 2026.

The activity was spearheaded by Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO Designate) Rodney Ben Z. Mantilla, RN, together with MNAO staff and members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee. The field visits aimed to strengthen the implementation of nutrition programs and monitor the nutritional status of identified Nutritionally-at-Risk (NAR) children in the barangays.

As part of the assessment, the team conducted anthropometric measurements, including height, weight, and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC), to monitor the children's growth and nutritional condition. The team also reviewed and monitored the implementation of the respective Barangay Nutrition Action Plan (BNAP) to identify accomplishments, gaps, and areas for improvement.

An Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) session was likewise conducted by the MNAO for the mothers and fathers of the children. Key messages focused on the importance of breastfeeding, immunization, Pinggang Pinoy, and proper hygiene and sanitation practices to promote healthy growth and prevent malnutrition and illness.

The activity underscored the commitment of the Municipal Government of Cagwait and the Municipal Nutrition Committee to strengthen community-based nutrition interventions and ensure that children, particularly those identified as nutritionally at risk, receive appropriate monitoring, support, and guidance for healthier growth and development.
