Under the leadership of FSSUPT ARLENE ABUAN BALAIS, PhD, Provincial Fire Marshal of Laguna, the Online Fire Investigation Enhancement Seminar was conducted earlier today. This one-day online seminar/workshop was designed to equip BFP personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the investigative mandate of the BFP.
Conducted by the Chief IIU of Biรฑan City Fire Station, FO3 Mark Anthony D. De Roxas, and the Chief, Provincial IIU of Laguna, FO2 Richard M. Escritor, this online seminar covered two fire investigation topics selected based on the learning needs of newly designated fire investigators from BFP Laguna. The seminar focused on the fundamental concepts and procedural aspects of Fire and Arson Investigation, specifically, Fire Origin/Fire Cause Determination and Information Gathering and Report Writing. It utilized concepts from the BFP Fire Investigation Course (FIC), BFP Standard Operating Procedure Number 2023-001, BFP Memorandum Circular Number 2024-001, and NFPA 921.
The seminar employed a combination of online discussions and pre-recorded videos to impart the necessary elements for conducting a methodical fire and arson investigation.
Objectives:
Determine the Origin and Cause of Fire: Equip participants with the skills to accurately identify the point of origin and cause of a fire.
Conduct an Investigation with Proper Documentation and Report Writing: Emphasize the importance of thorough documentation and clear, concise report writing.
Become Competent Fire Investigators: Develop the competence and confidence of participants to perform effectively as fire investigators.
