Empowering the Frontlines: Barangay Health Workers Training
Recognizing that true health progress begins at the grassroots, the City Health Office spearheaded a two-batch training for Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) on Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE), Social and Behavior Change (SBC), and Universal Health Care (UHC).
This multi-day capacity-building activity aimed to strengthen the BHWs’ vital role as frontline communicators, community mobilizers, and champions of Universal Health Care in their respective barangays.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in a series of dynamic discussions, workshops, and simulation exercises designed to strengthen their competencies in effective communication, community mobilization, and behavior change advocacy. Modules on RCCE and SBC emphasized how accurate information, clear messaging, and active engagement can dispel myths, inspire action, and build lasting health resilience.
Equally highlighted was the Universal Health Care framework, where BHWs were reoriented on their integral function in primary care linkages, health promotion, and community referral systems—ensuring that every citizen receives equitable and continuous health service.
With the combined guidance of facilitators from the City Health Office, the training culminated in a renewed commitment among BHWs to uphold their mission as frontline champions of UHC—empowered, informed, and ever ready to serve the people with compassion and integrity.
