The 803rd Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion - Charlie Company provided invaluable assistance to NwSSU personnel during Typhoon Man Yi (Pepito) as evacuees began flocking to the NwSSU Main Campus. This initiative was spearheaded by Dr. Eugene Calumba, the University's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (UDRRMO), following a directive from University President Dr. Benjamin L. Pecayo, who convened the University Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (UDRRM) Council to coordinate response efforts effectively.

On the evening of November 16, 2024, evacuees sheltering at the University's RSU-Socio Cultural Center were provided with food packs. This initiative, led by Ms. Jonah Salcedo, was made possible through generous contributions from the university community and stakeholders who donated cash to support the program.

The food pack distribution was carried out with the assistance of the 803rd Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion, led by Sgt. Ryan Emil T. Zosa IV, ensuring that evacuees received their provisions promptly and efficiently. The following morning, the various Eagles Clubs of Calbayog prepared arroz caldo for the evacuees, with the reservists once again stepping in to assist with the distribution, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to community service.

In addition to these efforts, the reservists assisted evacuees who decided to return to their respective homes after their stay at the shelter. Following this, they helped in the restoration of the RSU-Socio Cultural Center, ensuring it was ready for future use.

Throughout the initiative, the 803rd Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion showcased their steadfast support by actively participating in various activities organized by the university, further highlighting their dedication to serving both the institution and the community.

COL RAYMUNDO C PICUT JR GSC (INF) PA, Leads Marksmanship Training for 803rd RRIBn

Calbayog City, Samar — November 9, 2024

Today, COL RAYMUNDO C PICUT JR GSC (INF) PA, the Deputy Commander of the 8th Regional Community Defense Group (8RCDG) and Director of the 803rd Community Defense Center (CDC), conducted a comprehensive training session on M16A1 rifle marksmanship. This training, held specifically for the reservists of the 803rd Reserve Infantry Battalion (RRIBn) Charlie Company, underscores the Army’s commitment to enhancing skills and operational readiness among its reserve forces.

The training began with an in-depth lecture by COL Picut, covering essential aspects of handling and operating the M16A1 rifle. During this session, he emphasized the importance of safety, proper weapon handling, and precise shooting techniques. Participants learned about the mechanics of the rifle, focusing on key fundamentals like sight alignment, breathing control, trigger discipline, and stance. COL Picut provided theoretical insights and shared best practices to help reservists build a solid foundation in marksmanship.

Following the lecture, reservists participated in a dry shooting exercise, allowing them to practice the techniques without live ammunition. This hands-on training aimed to improve their proficiency with the M16A1, enabling them to apply the principles learned in a controlled environment. Through the dry shooting exercise, COL Picut was able to offer real-time corrections, guiding each participant in refining their posture, aiming, and trigger control.

The training session is part of a broader effort by the 8RCDG and the 803rd CDC to enhance the skill sets of reservists, ensuring they are prepared and equipped to support national defense initiatives. COL Picut expressed his confidence in the capability of the reservists, emphasizing the importance of readiness and discipline in their roles as part of the Reserve Command.

In addition to fostering skill development, this training serves to instill a strong sense of duty and responsibility among reservists, who play a vital role in augmenting the Armed Forces of the Philippines. By focusing on marksmanship, the 803rd RRIBn Charlie Company continues to strengthen its operational preparedness, ensuring that reservists remain ready to respond effectively to various security and defense challenges.

This session is part of an ongoing commitment by the 8RCDG to support the growth and training of reserve forces across the region. With the knowledge gained today, the 803rd RRIBn Charlie Company stands even better prepared to serve and protect.
