CALBIGA, SAMAR — Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Sec. Mel Senen S. Sarmiento, together with Calbiga Municipal Mayor Hon. Red Nacario, and senior Philippine Army leaders visited the Saad nga Balay project in Brgy. Borong, Calbiga, Samar, on August 21, 2026, for a consultation with former rebels who are beneficiaries of the Saad nga Balay program.

The engagement reaffirmed the government’s commitment to peace, reconciliation, and sustainable reintegration, while highlighting Saad nga Balay’s role in providing former rebels and their families with sustainable housing and support toward a peaceful and productive future.

The 63rd Infantry "Innovator" Battalion of the 8th Infantry "Stormtroopers" Division, Philippine Army, showcased high-level tactical coordination and operational readiness during the ongoing Battalion Evaluation and Capability Assessment Program (BECP) at their headquarters in Barangay Letiron, Calbiga, Samar. Led by the Battle Staff headed by Maj. Dacquel and facilitated by the Training Directorate under Lt. Col. Cajada, key leaders and Company Commanders received a comprehensive Operations Order (OPORD) briefing utilizing a detailed terrain model. The activity was closely observed by the PA Evaluation Team headed by Col. Nadala, alongside Exercise Control Group (ECG) led by Lt. Col. Gabia and Observer-Controller/Trainer (OCT) led by Lt. Col. Medina. Immediately following the briefing, 63IB officers led by Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Rosalejos, executed a Rehearsal of Concept Drill, which concluded with valuable observations, feedback, and strategic guidance from Col. Nadala to ensure total mission synchronization.

Nadala Jr., formally opened the BECP 2026 for the 63rd Infantry Battalion in Calbiga, Samar. Highlighted by key guidance from Brig. Gen. Niceforo M. Diaz, Assistant Division Commander of the 8th Infantry Division, this evaluation directly advances the Army’s strategic objectives and the broader Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) mission by validating field units against strict standards of tactical proficiency, discipline, and performance. By systematically identifying strengths and refining mission readiness, the Philippine Army reinforces the AFP’s steadfast commitment to building a highly capable, modern defense force dedicated to protecting national sovereignty and serving the Filipino people.

𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐁𝐀𝐋𝐎𝐆𝐀𝐍 𝐂𝐈𝐓𝐘, 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐫 – The 63rd Infantry (Innovator) Battalion, Philippine Army, received a Plaque of Recognition from the Cebu-based Visayas Command (VISCOM), Armed Forces of the Philippines in recognition of its exemplary dedication, operational excellence, and invaluable contribution to the successful dismantling of the Sub-Regional Committee (SRC) SESAME. The plaque was awarded during the 38th Founding Anniversary of the 8th Infantry (Stormtroopers) Division on 08 August 2026.

The award recognizes the battalion’s steadfast commitment to mission accomplishment and the collective efforts of its personnel in sustaining operations that contributed to the dismantling of SRC SESAME. It likewise highlights the unit’s significant contribution to advancing peace and security across Samar and Eastern Samar, creating conditions conducive to the pursuit of lasting peace and stability.

More than a recognition, the award serves as a renewed commitment for the 63rd “Innovator” Battalion to sustain the gains achieved, uphold operational excellence, and strengthen partnerships with stakeholders. With dedication and unity of purpose, the battalion remains committed to serving the people and contributing to a safer, more peaceful, and stable Samar and Eastern Samar.

Ang Lokal na Pamahalaan (LGU) ng Paranas, Samar ay pormal na tumanggap sa mga Former Rebels (FRs) na sina at sa isang seremonya ng presentasyon na pinangunahan ng 63rd Infantry Battalion, at ng 46th Infantry Battalion, noong ika-05 ng Agosto 2026 sa Conference Hall ng Municipal Hall ng Paranas, Samar.

Mainit silang tinanggap nina Hon. Elvira Uy-Babalcon, Punong Bayan ng Paranas, kasama si Hon. Atty. Eunice Uy-Babalcon, Pangalawang Punong Bayan, ang Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), ang Municipal Administrator, at iba pang mga opisyal ng lokal na pamahalaan. Bilang panimulang tulong sa kanilang pagbabalik sa mapayapang pamumuhay, agad silang pinagkalooban ng cash assistance, mga grocery item, at isang (1) sako ng bigas.

Higit pa sa agarang tulong, nangako ang Lokal na Pamahalaan ng patuloy na suporta sa kanilang reintegrasyon sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng tulong pangkabuhayan, pagproseso ng kanilang PSA civil registration, pagwawasto ng mga rekord ng kanilang mga anak, pagsasagawa ng kanilang kasal sa ilalim ng batas, at pagtulong sa ganap na muling pagsasama-sama ng kanilang pamilya. Ang mga hakbang na ito ay magbibigay sa kanila ng panibagong pagkakataon upang makapagsimula ng isang mas maayos at mas maliwanag na kinabukasan.

Ang makabuluhang pangyayaring ito ay sumasalamin sa matatag na ugnayan at pagtutulungan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at ng Lokal na Pamahalaan sa pagbabagong-buhay ng mga dating naligaw ng landas, pagpapanumbalik ng mga pamilya, at pagpapatatag ng pangmatagalang kapayapaan sa Samar.

Muling nananawagan ang Philippine Army sa lahat ng natitirang miyembro ng Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) na isuko ang armas at piliin ang landas ng kapayapaan. Handa ang pamahalaan na tulungan silang makapagsimulang muli sa pamamagitan ng mga programang pangreintegrasyon, mga oportunidad sa kabuhayan, tulong pinansyal, at muling pagsasama-sama ng kanilang mga pamilya.

Sama-sama nating itinataguyod ang isang mas ligtas, mas matatag, at mas mapayapang Samar—isang buhay na nababago, isang pamilyang muling nabubuo, at isang pamayanang lalong tumitibay sa bawat hakbang.

CALBIGA, Samar – The 63rd Infantry (Innovator) Battalion, Philippine Army, participated in the AFP-wide Simultaneous Flag-Raising Ceremony on 03 August 2026 at the Advance Command Post, 63IB, Brgy. Literon, Calbiga, Samar, in the observance of the 2026 International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month. The activity was led by LTC RICKY JAMES L. ROSALEJOS INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer of 63IB. The observance likewise commemorated the 77th Anniversary of the 1949 Geneva Conventions, the cornerstone of International Humanitarian Law.

LTC Rosalejos read the message of GENERAL ANTONIO G. NAFARRETE PA, Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines, who reiterated the AFP's unwavering commitment to the principles of International Humanitarian Law, human rights, and the rule of law. The message emphasized that respect for human dignity, the protection of persons not taking part in hostilities, and strict adherence to the Geneva Conventions remain fundamental responsibilities of every soldier. It further underscored that strengthened partnership and unity among government institutions, security forces, and humanitarian organizations are essential in advancing the effective implementation of IHL.

The observance reaffirmed the Armed Forces of the Philippines' steadfast commitment to embedding International Humanitarian Law in its doctrine, training, planning, and operations. As the nation commemorates IHL Month, the activity served as a reminder that military professionalism and humanitarian responsibility go hand in hand, strengthening public trust while ensuring the protection of civilians and the dignity of all persons affected by armed conflict.

Following the ceremony, the battalion conducted the Donning of Unit Patches for newly assigned officers, the Donning of Ranks for newly promoted enlisted personnel, and the presentation of Positional Awards to personnel designated to key leadership positions. Individual awards and commendations were likewise conferred upon deserving personnel in recognition of their exemplary performance, professionalism, and invaluable contributions to the accomplishment of the battalion's mission. These recognition rites underscored the unit's commitment to developing competent leaders, rewarding excellence, and inspiring every Innovator Trooper to uphold the highest standards of military service.

The Municipality of Pinabacdao, Samar marked its 80th Founding Anniversary during the official celebration held on July 16, 2026. Represented by 1Lt Janny Boy R. Engano (Inf) PA, Officer-in-Charge of Bravo Company, the 63rd Infantry (Innovator) Battalion joined the celebration in support of the municipality's continued pursuit of peace, unity, and development.

Beyond commemorating eight decades of history and culture, the celebration highlighted the strong partnership among the Local Government Unit, national government agencies, security forces, and the community in sustaining peace and advancing development.

The event likewise reflected the enduring gains of the Stable Internal Peace and Security Condition (SIPSC) declared in Pinabacdao on April 8, 2025. Since then, the municipality has continued to enjoy an improved security environment and stronger collaboration among stakeholders, enabling development initiatives, public services, and cultural traditions to flourish. Through the Whole-of-Nation Approach, these collective efforts continue to build a safer, more progressive, and more resilient Pinabacdao.

The 63rd Infantry (Innovator) Battalion remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving peace, strengthening partnerships, and working hand in hand with the people and local stakeholders toward a secure, progressive, and prosperous Pinabacdao.
