PNP QUICK RESPONSE HELPS SAVE 2-YEAR-OLD BOY FROM DROWNING IN ILIGAN

A routine police patrol turned into a race against time after PNP personnel in Iligan City responded to a drowning incident involving a two-year-old boy, helping restore his breathing before he was rushed to a hospital.

The City EOD and Canine Unit (CECU) Iligan team was conducting mobile patrol when they received the report from a resort in Barangay Sta. Filomena. Responding personnel PSMS Julius Andales, PSSg Jo-anne M. Nini, and PCpl Hoberto R. Ungab Jr. immediately proceeded to the area and performed CPR on the child while coordinating for emergency medical transport.

The child was later brought to a hospital and was reported to be awake and in stable condition under medical care.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the personnel for acting without hesitation when every second mattered.

“Sa ganitong sitwasyon, wala nang oras para maghintay. You respond, you help, and you give the person the best chance to survive. That is exactly what our personnel did,” PGen Nartatez said.

The incident highlights the value of police readiness beyond conventional law enforcement duties. It is consistent with the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which emphasizes timely and effective police action in situations that directly affect public safety.

It also reflects the government’s continuing commitment under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen emergency response and bring public safety services closer to communities.

The PNP reminds parents and guardians to keep young children within close supervision around swimming pools and other bodies of water, where accidents can happen in a matter of moments.

For the PNP, every response counts when a life is at stake, as it continues to uphold “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.”
