As part of the Regional Monitoring Teamโ€™s visit to schools in Caraga South District, Pantuyan National High School received monitoring and technical assistance from the Department of Education Regional Office XI on August 14 in preparation for the National Achievement Test (NAT) 2026.

More than a routine assessment, the visit provided the school community an opportunity to examine existing practices, strengthen learner interventions, and identify strategies to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

The Regional Monitoring Team, composed of Nelma Lyn R. Barnija, Chief HRDD, and Leonard Ray Castillo, Education Program Supervisor II, worked alongside the Schools Division of Davao Oriental Monitoring Team, namely Paolo Morales, EPS; Mary Grace Y. Mercado, SEPS; and District Coordinating Principal Arther Dick S. Pagulong.

During the engagement, key areas affecting learner achievement were reviewed, including curriculum implementation, instructional practices, learning delivery, assessment, intervention strategies, resource management, and the learning environment. Through the technical assistance provided, teachers and school leaders gained guidance in refining strategies responsive to learnersโ€™ needs.

The active participation of the school administration, teachers, and personnel underscored the schoolโ€™s commitment to continuous improvement. Consequently, the monitoring served as both a checkpoint and a call to action, to build on existing strengths, address learning gaps, and translate feedback into meaningful improvements.

With the continued support of DepEd Region XI and the Schools Division of Davao Oriental, Pantuyan National High School moves forward with renewed commitment to strengthening instruction, empowering learners, and achieving better learning outcomes.

From a story gathered in the community to a performance witnessed by many, the Pantuyan National High School Mandaya Cultural Ensemble brought The Legend of Pyalid to life during the 2nd Pag'gubukan Festival on August 13โ€“14 at the SP Compound, Brgy. Dahican, Mati City, under the theme โ€œPromoting Culture, Unity, and Environmental Stewardship for Sustainable Development.โ€

The presentation emerged from Community Story Research, an initiative of subject teacher and IPEd Coordinator Gerald Nico M. Pamaclawan that engages learners in gathering and documenting Mandaya oral traditions. As part of their Literature performance task, a learner documented the material from Maโ€™am Peligrina Diano, transforming classroom research into a cultural presentation that reached beyond the school community.

More than a festival performance, the presentation became a bridge between generations, allowing young performers to carry ancestral knowledge through movement, music, and memory. In the same way, its connection to the wind, bamboo, forests, rivers, and community life echoed the festivalโ€™s call for environmental stewardship, underscoring the close relationship between Indigenous culture and the natural environment.

With the leadership of School Head Dr. Esacio I. Monday, Jr., the performance served as a meaningful expression of cultural identity and heritage. Also, the ensemble was led by the schoolโ€™s IPEd Coordinator, with Maโ€™am Erma D. Blas, Maโ€™am Riezell Anne M. Banoy, and Sir Fernan G. Burgos providing the choreography that translated Mandaya cultural knowledge into a cohesive stage presentation.

Moreover, the school extends its gratitude to Provincial IPMR/Provincial Tribal Council Chairman Eleuterio C. Manaytay, IPMR and Tribal Chieftain Hon. Christine Banugan-Bondoc, Hon. Rican T. Calig-onan, LGU Caraga through Municipal Administrator Mr. Eutiquio B. Pagsac Jr., alumna Maโ€™am Sedlac A. Malitoc, and the parents for their generosity and support in making the presentation possible.

From a learnerโ€™s research to a communityโ€™s stage, The Legend of Pyalid reminds us that culture lives when it is remembered, shared, and carried forward. As young people become its keepers, the legacy of their ancestors continues to move with the wind toward generations yet to come.

Beyond lessons and schoolwork, the Pantuyan National High School community came together in faith through a Holy Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Jay B. Ramos DCM.

In his homily, Fr. Ramos reminded the school community that love, forgiveness, humility, and reconciliation are the foundations of a peaceful and united community. He encouraged everyone to understand one another, lovingly correct mistakes, and choose peace over conflict.

The celebration became more than a moment of prayer, it was a reminder that faith is lived through the way we treat one another. As the Pantuyan NHS community returned to its daily activities, it carried with it a renewed call to foster kindness, unity, and compassion in the classroom and beyond.

Pantuyan National High School joined the nationwide observance of National Indigenous Peoples Day on August 10, 2026, with a meaningful celebration focused on honoring and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Mandaya people. In support of the Department of Education's Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) Program and in compliance with Division Memorandum CID-2026-151, teachers and non-teaching personnel wore traditional Mandaya attire during the Flag Raising Ceremony as a visible expression of respect, appreciation, and solidarity with the Indigenous Cultural Community.

To deepen learners' understanding of Mandaya culture while ensuring that regular classroom instruction continued uninterrupted, teachers integrated Indigenous culture, history, values, language, and Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (IKSPs) into their daily lessons. A gallery walk showcasing Mandaya traditions, cultural practices, and heritage was conducted during the Pag-aaral ng Kasaysayan at Lipunang Pilipino class, allowing students to appreciate the richness of their ancestral identity through visual displays and shared learning experiences.

As part of the celebration, students participated in short yet engaging classroom-based activities lasting five to ten minutes. Grade 7 learners took part in "Know Our Culture," a cultural trivia activity that tested their knowledge of Mandaya traditions and customs. Grade 8 students participated in "Stories of Our Culture," a big book reading session featuring stories that highlighted Mandaya values and way of life. Grade 9 learners expressed their thoughts through "My Culture, My Identity," a reflection-writing activity that encouraged personal appreciation of cultural heritage. Grade 10 students showcased their creativity through "Draw Our Heritage," producing artworks inspired by Mandaya culture and traditions, while Grade 11 learners promoted cultural pride through "One Line for Our Culture," an advocacy slogan-making activity emphasizing the importance of preserving Indigenous identity.

The celebration was further highlighted by an inspiring message from Mr. Gerald Nico M. Pamaclawan, IPEd Coordinator, who reminded learners that Mandaya attire represents more than clothing, as it embodies the identity, history, traditions, and wisdom passed down by ancestors. He encouraged students to take pride in their cultural roots, respect and preserve their heritage, and continue learning from their elders. He emphasized that education should strengthen cultural identity and help learners become more aware, appreciative, and proud of who they are as members of the Mandaya community.

Through these meaningful activities, the school reaffirmed its commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive education, demonstrating that the preservation of Mandaya culture remains an important part of nurturing learners who are knowledgeable, grounded in their identity, and proud of their heritage.

The spirit of regional solidarity and national pride came alive at Pantuyan National High School during its flag ceremony, as the school officially launched the celebration of ASEAN Month 2026.

Spearheaded by Araling Panlipunan Coordinator Jenevic L. Pelyapa, the opening program featured the solemn singing of the ASEAN Hymn and a vibrant parade of teachers proudly dressed in traditional ASEAN attire. The colorful display symbolized the Philippinesโ€™ rich cultural heritage and PNHSโ€™s commitment to fostering unity within the ASEAN community.

Following the launching program, the school also recognized its Provincial Meet qualifiers, honoring student-athletes who earned the opportunity to represent the school in the upcoming provincial competitions this September. Their recognition stood as a tribute to their perseverance, discipline, and excellence as they prepare to carry the pride of the school onto a bigger stage.

This celebration highlighted not only the importance of cultural appreciation and regional cooperation, but also PNHSโ€™s unwavering support for learners striving to excel in both academics and sports.
