𝐏𝐇 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
The Philippines will join the observance of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) on October 13, 2026, with the launch of the Panatag Pilipinas 3.0 campaign in schools under the localized theme "Panatag na Tahanan at Paaralan."
Panatag Pilipinas 3.0 is an expanded campaign by the Office of Civil Defense and the World Bank that brings educational videos and other learning materials on various hazards directly to schools, using them as platforms to build a culture of preparedness and resilience among students, teachers, and the wider school community.
Panatag Pilipinas features 28 videos covering preparedness measures for various hazards, including earthquakes, tropical cyclones, landslides, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and floods. The materials will be distributed to schools nationwide.
In the National Capital Region, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the Department of Education (DepEd), and the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) will launch the campaign at Rizal High School in Pasig City.
"Schools have been chosen as the center of the Panatag Pilipinas 3.0 campaign launch in recognition of their vital role in developing knowledge and skills for preparedness. The campaign highlights that what students, teachers, and other members of the school community learn in school can be brought home and shared with their families and communities," Civil Defense Administrator, Undersecretary Harold Cabreros said.
Usec. Cabreros also emphasized that disaster preparedness is not limited to the classroom, noting that knowledge and skills developed at home can also be shared in schools and with other members of the community.
"Knowledge and skills acquired at home can also be brought to school and shared with others. Both homes and schools serve as important learning environments where preparedness is collectively promoted and practiced," he added.
Through practical information on hazards and preparedness measures, Panatag Pilipinas 3.0 aims to encourage students, teachers, families, and communities to apply what they learn and incorporate preparedness practices into their daily lives.
The United Nations General Assembly designated October 13 as the annual observance of the IDDRR to promote a culture of risk awareness and highlight the importance of strengthening disaster risk reduction and resilience efforts.
This year's global theme, "Resilience Starts at Home," underscores the role of households in building resilience. It calls on families to take proactive steps to protect themselves by understanding the risks they face and knowing what to do before, during, and after a hazard.
The IDDRR also coincides with ASEAN Day for Disaster Management (ADDM), observed annually on October 13. The observance aims to raise public awareness of disaster preparedness and resilience while highlighting the importance of regional cooperation among Southeast Asian countries in disaster risk reduction and management.
