The focused effort of the Department of Agriculture to better manage supply and prices for key staples—especially rice, sugar, and corn—are helping cushion the impact of rising costs of consumer goods for the country’s poorest families, even as inflation climbs to its highest in six months for the average consumer.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Tuesday, price deflation persisted for the bottom 30 percent income households, though at a more moderate rate of negative 0.2 percent in September versus negative 0.6 percent in August. Over the first nine months of 2025, inflation for this segment averaged 0.3 percent, effectively leaving more breathing room in their budgets compared to broader inflation trends.
