Protecting Women and Children: LGU Carmen Holds Joint Advocacy Program

The Gender and Development (GAD) unit extends its deepest gratitude to the Local Government Unit of Carmen, led by Mayor Rogelio T. Taliรฑo, together with the Sangguniang Bayan under Vice Mayor Roger Ryan Taliรฑo and Committee Chair Hon. Ivy Carolino-Pobre, and Barangay Poblacion, headed by Captain Joseph Navidad and the Barangay Council, for their warm support and partnership in conducting the Joint Capability-Building Advocacy Program. The activity aimed to strengthen local efforts for Violence Against Women and Their Children (VAWC), Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC), Barangay Committees for the Protection of Children (BCPC), and Gender and Development (GAD).
This orientation was organized to inform the community about the risks of early teenage pregnancy and to share key details about Republic Act No. 11596, the law banning child marriage and setting penalties for violators. Guest speaker Atty. Krystine Joy B. Sitjar-Nietes, RN, LLM shared expert legal advice, while Ms. Cristy Grave Reyes, RN, MAN and her team from the Rural Health Unit (RHU) discussed important health topics for women and young people.
The event was organized by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) led by Head Social Worker Rahib Abas, Social Workers and volunteers.
Congratulations to everyone for the successful conduct of the event! It was an active and meaningful gathering with strong support from students, parents, and teachers of Carmen Central Elementary School, Carmen Northwest Elementary School, Carmen National High School, and Carmen Senior High School. This teamwork shows the strong promise of Carmen to keep women and children safe and healthy.
