On August 21, 2026, the learning continued in San Antonio, Northern Samar, as drivers of habal-habal, tricycles, and motorboats from San Antonio and Victoria took part in another meaningful day of training.

The sessions focused on Tourism WoRCS, covering Gender and Development in Tourism, Child-Safe Tourism, Anti-Trafficking Awareness, and Responsible Tourism, important topics that help tourism frontliners promote a safer, more inclusive, and responsible environment for every visitor.

Participants also discussed Correct Driving and Boat Handling Techniques, focusing on safe driving and navigation practices, professional conduct, passenger safety, and proper vehicle and motorboat maintenance. These skills are essential in ensuring that tourists enjoy not only convenient transportation but, more importantly, safe and reliable travel experiences.

The sessions were once again facilitated by Dr. Freddie A. Quinito, DOT National Master Trainer, who shared his knowledge and expertise with the participants through engaging discussions and practical learning.

With San Antonio welcoming visitors for leisure, meetings, team-building activities, seminars, and other travel purposes, strengthening the skills of local transport providers is an important step toward providing safer and more welcoming tourism services.

Our sincere gratitude goes to the Department of Tourism Region VIII for initiating this valuable training, in partnership with the Provincial Tourism Office of Northern Samar and the Municipal Office of San Antonio. We also extend our appreciation to Dr. Freddie A. Quinito for generously sharing his expertise, and to the Provincial Government of Northern Samar, under the leadership of Governor Harris Ongchuan, for its continued support in developing a more professional and tourism-ready workforce.

Another successful day of learning toward safer, more responsible, and more hospitable tourism transportation services!

On August 20, 2026, a productive and engaging first day of learning was held in San Antonio, Northern Samar, bringing together drivers of habal-habal, tricycles, and motorboats from the municipalities of San Antonio and Victoria.

To accommodate more drivers, the training venue was transferred to a more convenient location, allowing participants to attend while minimizing time away from their daily livelihood and work.

The participants gained valuable insights into Tourism Overview, helping them better understand the importance of tourism, its stakeholders, current trends, and the role of destination promotion. Discussions also focused on Tourism Products and Services, visitor assistance, customer service and communication excellence, and guiding commentary techniques, essential skills for drivers who serve as some of the first tourism frontliners encountered by visitors.

To make the learning more engaging, participants also took part in group activities and scenario-based exercises, where they practiced proper responses and services in situations commonly encountered while assisting tourists.

The session was facilitated by Dr. Freddie A. Quinito, DOT National Master Trainer, whose expertise and interactive approach inspired the participants to become more knowledgeable, professional, and hospitable tourism frontliners.

With San Antonio continuing to welcome visitors not only for leisure and vacations but also for meetings, team-building activities, seminars, and other business-related travels, this training is an important step toward providing safer, more reliable, and more welcoming transportation services.

Our sincere appreciation goes to the Department of Tourism Region VIII for initiating this meaningful training, in partnership with the Provincial Tourism Office and the Municipal Tourism Office of San Antonio. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Provincial Government of Northern Samar, under the leadership of Governor Harris Christopher Ongchuan, for its continued support in strengthening the province's tourism workforce.

Day 3 | Course on Front Office Operations โœจ

August 19, 2026 marked the final day of the 3-Day Course on Front Office Operations held at Ibabao Hall, Capitol Building, Catarman, Northern Samar, and the training concluded with an engaging and practical activity that allowed participants to put their learnings into action.

Before the culminating activity, Dr. Freddie A. Quinito discussed important topics on Concierge Services, Customer Relations, and Corporate Image Projection, highlighting the importance of going beyond basic transactions and creating a positive, professional, and lasting impression on every guest.

For their final activity, participants formed groups and presented various front office scenarios that may happen in actual hotel and accommodation settings. These included guest check-in and check-out, handling reservations, responding to guest inquiries and requests, assisting guests with luggage, addressing complaints and concerns, providing concierge assistance, and handling unexpected situations at the front desk.

The activity gave participants the opportunity to apply the knowledge, techniques, and service principles shared throughout the training by Dr. Freddie, demonstrating how proper communication, professionalism, problem-solving, teamwork, and genuine hospitality come together in real front office situations.

Our participants from accommodation establishments in Mondragon, Pambujan, Palapag, San Roque, Allen, and Catarman, together with Hospitality Management students from the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP), actively participated and successfully completed the activity, showcasing the skills and confidence they gained throughout the three-day training.

As the course came to a close, the participants proved that learning does not end with lectures; it becomes meaningful when it is practiced, applied, and shared. Their active participation throughout the three days reflects their commitment to providing better and more professional service to every visitor who comes to Northern Samar.

To our Hospitality Management students from the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP), may the knowledge, skills, and values you gained from this training become part of your journey as future tourism and hospitality professionals. We hope that you will carry these lessons with you as you pursue your careers and, someday, use your skills and expertise to contribute to the growth of Northern Samarโ€™s tourism industry and help create better experiences for our visitors and communities.

The Provincial Tourism Office of Northern Samar extends its heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Freddie A. Quinito for generously sharing his expertise, experience, and valuable insights throughout the training.

We also thank the Department of Tourism Region 8 (DOT 8) for initiating and providing this meaningful capacity-building opportunity, and the Provincial Government of Northern Samar (PGNS), under the leadership of Governor Harris Ongchuan, for its continued support in developing a competent, service-oriented, and tourism-ready workforce.

Congratulations to all our participants! May the knowledge and skills gained from this training continue to inspire you to deliver exceptional hospitality with professionalism and the warmth of Nortehanons.

LOOK: Building Better Front Office Services in Northern Samar!

Yesterday, August 17, 2026, marked the first day of the 3-Day Course on Front Office Operations held at Ibabao Hall, Capitol Building, Catarman, Northern Samar, with Dr. Freddie A. Quinito as the resource speaker.

Dr. Quinito is a National Master Trainer of the Department of Tourism (DOT), Certified Hospitality Educator and Consultant, TESDA Assessor, and Hospitality Business Operator, bringing valuable industry knowledge and experience to the training.

Day 1 featured three engaging modules designed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of tourism and hospitality frontliners:

Module 1: Introduction to Front Office Operations
Participants explored the fundamentals of front office services, including different types of rooms and beds, basic hotel terminology, guest cycle, and the essential roles and responsibilities of front desk personnel.

Module 2: Reservation Procedures
The session focused on proper reservation handling, guest inquiries, booking procedures, and the importance of accuracy and efficiency in managing reservations to ensure a smooth guest experience.

Module 3: Airport Guest Assistance
Participants learned about assisting guests upon arrival, proper communication and hospitality practices, coordination, and creating a warm and welcoming experience from the moment tourists reach their destination.

The training brought together owners and staff of accommodation establishments from Mondragon, Pambujan, Palapag, San Roque, Allen, and Catarman, as well as Hospitality Management students from the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP). Their active participation, enthusiasm, and eagerness to learn made the first day both productive and engaging.

Front office personnel serve as the first point of contact and often the first impression guests have of an accommodation establishment. Strengthening their skills and knowledge is essential in delivering efficient, professional, and welcoming service that leaves a positive and lasting impression on every guest.

This training was initiated by the Department of Tourism Region 8, in partnership with the Provincial Tourism Office of Northern Samar.

Thank you to DOT Region 8 for providing this valuable learning opportunity to our tourism workforce, and to Dr. Freddie A. Quinito for generously sharing his expertise, experience, and insights with our participants.

Our appreciation also goes to the Provincial Government of Northern Samar, under the leadership of Governor Harris Ongchuan, for its continued support in developing a skilled, service-oriented, and competitive tourism workforce in the province.

Day 1 down, two more days of learning, sharing, and strengthening our front office services!
