BJMP Regional Office 8 Partners with Religious Organizations to Provide PDL with Spiritual Support

Palo, Leyte - The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Regional Office 8 and fifteen (15) Accredited Religious Service Providers conducted Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing and Service Providers Forum on April 12, 2023, at the Palo Municipal Function Hall, Palo, Leyte.
The Regional Director of the Jail Bureau, JCSUPT DELVIC L OREIRO, the Assistant Regional Director for Operations, JSSUPT RILL F SONON, the Chief of the Regional Welfare and Development Division, JSINSP MA. NEMIA C LOPEZ, and the Regional Accreditation Board Committee graced the activity. As the Regional Chaplain of the Jail Bureau, Rev. Fr. Bartolome C. Sagadal highlighted that service providers are "Partners for Change and Transformation for our PDL Clients."
Among the fifteen (15) Accredited Religious Service Providers are Global Outreach Development International; ACT Philippines Inc.; St Bartholomew Parish; TWC Ministries; VIPS; WEBC- Jail Outreach Bible School; Zamar Liberty Church; Baybay Grace Baptist Church; Couples for Christ; Jesus is Alive; Living Word Christians Churches Cebu International; Servants of the Living Word Community; Immaculate Conception Parish Church; Sogod United Church of Christ in the Philippines; and Jesus Our Shield Worldwide Ministry.
The event aims to provide a system and regulation of accreditation and the issuance of an ID card for service providers offering services and intervention programs to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) clients in all BJMP-managed jails region-wide. It also aimed to promote cooperation and collaboration among stakeholders in addressing the challenges faced by the BJMP in managing jails in the region. Furthermore, this will also create sustainable partnerships with all NGOs, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders for the improvement of the welfare and development of PDL in preparation for their eventual release into the community.
During the event, several religious organizations and service providers signed an MOA with BJMP Regional Office 8 to provide various religious services to PDL. Among the services to be provided are religious counseling, bible studies, worship services, and spiritual guidance, among others.
In his speech, BJMP Regional Director JCSupt. Delvic L. Oreiro emphasized the importance of partnerships between the BJMP and various religious organizations and service providers in delivering the religious services needed by PDL. He expressed his gratitude to the organizations and service providers who committed their support to the BJMP in promoting the spiritual well-being of PDL.
The Religious Service Providers Forum also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange ideas and discuss best practices in providing religious services to the PDL. The forum served as a platform to promote better understanding and cooperation among stakeholders.
With the successful MOA signing and Religious Service Providers Forum, BJMP Regional Office 8 is optimistic that it can continue to strengthen partnerships and cooperation among religious organizations and service providers to provide quality religious services to the PDL.
